Did you Know Lions are the only known cat species where individuals roar together - with even young cubs joining in with their mews. The calling sequence usually lasts about 40 seconds. A group of lions, also called 'a pride', often roar together to mark their territory - a roar can be heard from 5 miles away.

You might think an elephant tail is just a tail, they are all the same. Well, they are not, each tail is different. Some have lots of hair, others don't have hair at all.
They all seem to be slightly different in length and the length of the hair varies a lot. Very long hairs and very short, unfortunately, the hairs of the tail of an elephant (and giraffe) are used for jewelry. This has become a big problem for the Asian elephant, now besides habitat loss and their ivory, they have a new problem.
People make mostly bracelets out of the tail hair of an elephant. In South Africa it's not illegal to have one, but you never know where it comes from. You might buy an elephant hair bracelet of a poached elephant. If you really want one, it's best to look for one with a certificate, which says that the hairs were legally purchased. There are elephants that die of natural causes in reserve, most reserve will remove the parts that are big on the black market, for example tusks and tail hair. Some reserves sell the bracelets themselves and you will get a certificate that says the elephant, wasn't poached and in that case there is no harm in owning a bracelet.
But it's said to think that elephants, giraffes and other animals get poached for something 'simple' as tail hair!

Now I wrote all about the tail hair, but there are also elephant with a piece of their tail missing. Which means they don't have hair at all, just a little stump at the end and the length varies. I am not sure why they don't have a full tell, we can only guess; born with it, snare, stuck behind something, predator took a bite... Lots of options

Oh and funny enough: not all tails are straight!

I thought it would be nice to show you some different elephants tails today to give you a better idea of how they look

Hippos are very dangerous, each year over 500 people get killed by hippos in Africa.
Even though they are so dangerous, they are also adorable, especially the babies! They are so cute.
Here is some info about baby hippos;
πŸ¦› Hippo's are pregnant for about 8 months
πŸ¦› Babies are born under water
πŸ¦› Babies weigh between 25-50 kg / 60-110 pounds at birth
πŸ¦› Their length would be between 1.2-1.4m / 4-4.5 feet
πŸ¦› They can suckle (drink) underwater
πŸ¦› They drink milk for about 1-1,5 years
πŸ¦› Mother hippos have to protect their young from male hippos. Grown males don't attack on land, but they will attack and often kill baby hippos under water
πŸ¦› Twins are incredibly rare, normally it's one at the time
πŸ¦› When a mama hippo is ready to give birth, she will go off on her own to have her baby and to bond with the calf for a week or two. When she returns to the pod, the female community will help defend from predators.
πŸ¦› A hippo is mature around the age of 6-7 years
πŸ¦› When baby hippos are in the water they often lie on their mom's back, so they can breath when necessary
