The Sugar House is a popular four bedroom house set over three floors with large swimming pool. The beach is a couple of minutes walk from the house along the public beach access road. Looking the other direction from the first and second floors are stunning views of the sunsets out over Prawn Lake.…

We all love to dip our toes in the sea and wallow in it’s tropical waters, and Watamu is certainly a place where you can do this, but who doesn’t love a splash around in the pool later? The majority of DiscoverWatamu’s private villa rentals offer your own secluded swimming pool as part of this incr…

Tucked away in the mangrove forests that line Watamu’s Mida Creek are a couple of makuti-thatched wooden decks, reached by a board walk through the mangroves. There are chairs and tables, friendly staff and a fabulous view out over the open water. You pay a modest fee to visit for a soft drink or a…

Have a great weekend everyone! A quick turtle fact for you ... sea turtles have very good vision underwater and can see colours except for orange and red!

Someone confessed to us today that while dining out for dinner a few days ago in a restaurant in Richmond BC, Canada they enjoyed a bowl of shark fin soup - Innocently and without knowing anything regarding how fins are obtained or the grave danger this very soup causes millions of sharks on our planet.
Thankfully a family member filled them in 2 days later and this individual was shocked to hear these animals are just dumped back into the Ocean to drown at the bottom mercilessly for overpriced soup... and only because they have fins.
This person had no idea about this practice and was horrified to know the truth...

We need to create more awareness.

Please pass this post along and if anyone knows the names of any of these restaurants serving shark fin soup... please (IM) or email us.

Thank you

Check out these crazy turtle tracks! It wasn't the female we were expecting but a new nest was laid last night at Blue Bay Cove. The tracks show that she came out twice, most likely she was disturbed the first time but came back later to lay her nest. By the time she had finished laying, the tide had receded a long way and she was cut off from the water by the rocks. Fortunately a guard from the hotel nearby noticed she was injuring herself scrambling over the rocks and gathered people to help. Together they lifted her over the rocks and got her safely back to the water. Our team have successfully relocated the nest of 95 eggs to a safe location this morning. A fantastic effort by all, well done everybody!

We're very excited this here at LOT as we are expecting a nesting female to return to the beach any night now to lay her 3rd nest. We'll keep you updated!

Our Community Liaison Officer, Athman, together with others in Watamu, work hard to engage the youth in activities such as football to stop them engaging in drug abuse, illegal fishing and other negative behaviour. These games keep them busy and having fun, plus it's a great time to teach them about caring for the marine environment! We are so happy to be able to support this amazing initiative and sponsor the football tournaments held throughout the year!

Just over the road from The Sugar House is one of Watamu's great restaurants - The Pilipan. It shares the same views out over Prawn Lake as The Sugar House and the food is Asian fusion and the cocktails…pretty fantastic!
