Walking Tour: "Soviet Architecture of 1960s-1980s" to be held on 18 May, Saturday at 10.00 AM

On this walking tour you will get introduced to the late Soviet era architecture in the central part of Bishkek.

Monumentality is a characteristic feature of the late Soviet architecture. The buildings were constructed in large scales, although without much granularity and details in the facades.

The buildings are modest in terms of color due to the hot summer season in mountainous Kyrgyzstan. Due to their modest colors, the buildings are also perceived as larger than they are.

The architects of this period managed to integrate the Kyrgyz national identity in the buildings not just directly applying the traditional ornaments, but organizing rhythmic distance between windows, adding arch entrances, etc.

When: 18 May, Saturday
Time: 10.00- 12.30

On this walking tour you will get introduced to Bishkek's architecture of the 1920s - 1950s in the central part of Bishkek. At an early stage it was important to take into account the local conditions such as climate, landscape and geology.

The architects of those times managed to design and build seismically proof buildings which were also comfortable for people to work and live in all seasons. The architecture of this era strived to imitate classical styles. On the two hour walking tour you can enjoy some interesting architecture that still reflects the mood of Bishkek's past.

Industry Walking Tour "Interhelpo" 23 March, Saturday 11.00-13.00

How did a land of sprawling landscapes transform into an industrial powerhouse in the Soviet period?

Join our walking tour as we unravel the riveting tale of Bishkek's journey from agrarian roots to an industrial town, sprinkled with a touch of Central European communists!

Czechoslovakian cooperative, created in 1923, had one mission: to kickstart the socialist economy of Soviet Kyrgyzstan. From the first hum of electricity in Bishkek to the clattering of farm machinery, they revolutionized the landscape.

In a blink, Interhelpo wove a tapestry of change. Textile factories hummed with life, railroad was extended further, and hospitals and schools were constructed in the Interhelpo industrial district.

In 1925, Interhelpo claimed the title of the USSR's finest cooperative. On our walking tour, we'll dive into the highs, the challenges, and the ultimate fall of this remarkable force that shaped Kyrgyzstan's industrial growth.

Fast forward to today, and the footprints of Interhelpo linger in the old corners of modern Bishkek. Join us as we explore unusual places, remnants of a bygone era that still add character to the city.

Ready to time-travel through the industrial whispers of Bishkek? Grab your curiosity, and let's stroll through the forgotten chapters of our city!
