The Terrace of the L***r King is one of the most intriguing and mysterious buildings in Angkor Thom, the ancient capital of the Khmer Empire. Located in the northwest corner of the Royal Square, this 7-meter-high platform is crowned by a statue that has given rise to many legends and speculations.
The statue depicts a naked figure with a cheerful expression sitting cross-legged on a lotus throne. It is believed to represent Yama, the Hindu god of death and ruler of the underworld. However, its modern name comes from a 15th-century carving found at the site that showed signs of discoloration resembling leprosy and moss growth. Some also associate him with King Yasovarman I, who allegedly suffered from leprosy and built a hospital nearby.
The Terrace of the L***r King is a fascinating historical site in Angkor Thom, Cambodia. It was built by King Jayavarman VII in the 12th century, but its name comes from a statue that was found there in the 19th century. The terrace itself is a U-shaped platform with elaborate carvings of gods, demons, animals and mythical creatures on the walls. The carvings are arranged on five levels and show remarkable skill and detail. The terrace may have been used for royal cremations or ceremonies, but its exact purpose is still unknown.

Banteay Kdei Temple is a charming ancient temple located opposite the grand basin of Srah Srang to which it was once connected. Built in the mid-12th to early 13th centuries during the reign of king Jayavarman VII.
The highlights of the site are its ruinous charm, eastern terrace with naga and lions, the gopuras (gates), Buddha statue in the east gopura, the Hall of Dancers, pediment reliefs, and the majestic tree on the western side to name some.
Unfortunately, none of the inscriptions at Banteay Kdei reveal its construction date, yet it is believed to have been built towards the end of the 12th century with some pauses in construction while the central shrine is seemingly more confidently dated to the reign of Jayavarman VII in the late 12th-early 13th century.

The gates of Angkor Thom are a cruciform layout, with side chambers, approximately 20 m high joining to the 8 m high laterite wall that encloses the citadel of Angkor Thom. The inner side chamber housed a large pedestal while the outer chamber is believed by some to have been a guard post, having an access door on the inner wall which was seemingly blocked off in later times.

Angkor Thom is quadrangle of defensive walls totaling 12 kilometers that once protected the Khmer capital of the same name (Angkor Thom means 'Great City'). Built in the late 12th and early 13th centuries by King Jayavarman VII, the walls are divided by two axes running north-south and east-west. A gateway lies at the end of each axis, four in total, facing the four cardinal directions. An additional gate, called the 'Gate of Victory', pierces the east wall just north of the 'Gate of the Dead', the east gate along the central axis. The significance of the additional gate is that it provided access to a terrace of the royal palace. As for the other gates, the two axes intersect at the center of the enclosed area where the Bayon temple sits.

Ruiny świątyni Ta Prohm zwiedza się z zachwytem i pozostawia z żalem. To jedna z najbardziej tajemniczych ze wszystkich świątyń w Angkorze. Niegdyś dom dla 2740 mnichów, dziś Ta Prohm wygląda podobnie jak na początku lat 50 w XIX wieku, kiedy francuski badacz Henri Mouhot odkrył to miejsce. Świątynia przypomina labirynt z bloków kamiennych, porośniętych olbrzymimi drzewami. Była uwieczniona w „Tomb Raider” z Angeliną Jolie.

Temples around Angkor Wat - Baksei Chamkrong is easy to find as it is located close to the Angkor mainroad, just outside the South Gate of Angkor Thom and at the basis of Phnom Bakheng.
The temple was built by the king Harshavarman I in the early 10th century. The very steep pyramidal temple topped with a single prasat tower was built as a Hindu sanctuary dedicated to Shiva.
Baksei Chamkrong is well proportioned and impresses more by its elegance than by its size. Baksei Chamkrong is a four-tiered pyramid of 27 square metres at the basis and rises 13 metres. The total height including the brick Prasat on the top is 23 metres.
