Tonlé Sap

Le Tonlé Sap (ou Boeung Tonlé Sap) est un lac imposant du Cambodge. C'est la plus grande étendue d'eau douce de toute l'Asie du Sud-Est ! Il est relié au fleuve Mekong, mais pas directement alimenté par celui-ci. En saison sèche, le lac Tonlé Sap est alimenté par les rivières environnantes. L'eau s'écoule ensuite vers le Mékong. En saison des pluies, le surplus d'eau du Mekong se met à remonter dans le lac et provoque ainsi un courant inversé. Le lac grossit alors de 5 à 6 fois, pour atteindre 12 000 km² (environ 250 x 50 km). Son niveau d'eau monte de 8 à 11 m supplémentaires ! Il envahit alors les forêts et les plaines. Lorsque la saison des pluies cesse, l'eau du lac se vide à nouveau dans le Mekong.
