K-somethings are so popular these days! However, is anyone interested in going deep into it? Korea is a such a small country in Asia and it neither has spectacular natural landscapes nor worldwide famous luxury resorts, but its culture is so rich that, i dare to say, all the K-somethings are coming from it!
Come visit the National Folk Museum of Korea! It presents Korean culture or Korea itself into 3 themes: Korea of today, A year of Korea, and Korean life passage. Each theme tells the story of things or typical events of Koreans’ life. English & Chinese docent service is available! Great and interesting story telling by the docent! However, without the docent service it would merely be some eye-catching strange items displayed!

2024년 11월 9일 죽장연 (경북 죽장면 오상리) 에서 진행됩니다.

Outstanding in the field는 계속적으로 진행되는 야외만찬 이벤트로써, 1999년 미국의 Jim Denevan에 의하여 창시되었습니다. 지금까지 17개 국가에서 진행되었습니다.

“일반적인 레스토랑들은 자신의 메뉴를 위하여 식재료를 구하지만, Outstanding in the field는 우리의 주방을 식재료의 산지로 가져갑니다. 길다란 테이블을 식재료가 자라나고 얻어지는 밭이나 과수원 또는 해변을 따라 배열합니다. Outstanding in the field의 목적은 우리가 즐기는 만찬과 그 재료가 얻어진 대지를 함께하면서 이 모든것을 준비해준 노고의 손길에 찬사를 보내는것 입니다.”

지정된 현지 쉐프는 4-5가지의 코스요리를 이벤트가 시작하기 몇주전까지 주식재료와 이벤트가 열리는 야외환경에 기초하여 디자인 합니다. 이벤트 참석자는 아무도 행사 당일까지 어떤 음식이 제공되는지 알수없습니다. 만찬 시간은 통상 5시간 정도 소요되며 초대되는 게스트는 평균 150-200명 정도입니다.

이번 죽장연 만찬을 위하여 지정된 쉐프는 뉴욕에서 레스토랑 “메주”와 “단지“를 운영하는 Hooni Kim 입니다.

Outstanding in the field is a recurring outdoor dining event. Founded in 1999 by Jim Denevan in US. It has been held in 17 countries.

”Traditional restaurants source ingredients for their menus; we bring our kitchen right to the source - setting our long table in the fields, orchards and along the seashores where the meal’s ingredients were harvested. Our aim is to reconnect diners to the land while celebrating the hardworking hands that feed us”

Local chefs create a four-or-five menus for each event no more than a few weeks before it is held, designing the menus based on the local ingredients and the event venue, and attendees don’t learn what they will be served until after they arrive. Each event usually last about 5 hours and attendees are in average 150-200 people.

For the event at Jookjangyeon,on Nov 9 2024, chef Hooni Kim has been invited; he owns “Meju” & “Danji” in NY!
