Yesterday, I had the privilege of taking graduates from the Dart Hospitality Group on a Cayman Sampler tour before they start their internship rotations through the hospitality industry! This experience was made possible by the partnership of others in the industry who I am always proud to work with, Raymond of Papi's Transport and Arvid of Big Tree BBQ! We visited the Pedro St.James Historic Site, the QE2 Botanic Park and Blue Iguana Conservation Center, the site of the Wreck of the Ten Sails, had a delicious Cayman Style lunch at Big Tree, and stopped at the Blow Holes before heading back to Camana Bay! This amazing orchid is in bloom at the QE2 Botanic Park. Locals.....The Children's Garden is open with a splash pad for these HOT days! Admission fee now includes the Blue Iguana Conservation area. Pack a lunch or snack and enjoy a few hours exploring this beautiful botanic park!

Happy World Parrot Day!
Featuring our very own beautiful and intelligent Cayman Parrot- Amazona Leucocephala Caymanensis! Our National Bird, endangered, illegal to take from the wild or keep as a pet unless registered with Doe Cayman. The Cayman Brac sub species- Amazona Leucocephala Hernesta is similar in coloration but slightly smaller. Their habitat is being destroyed rapidly, especially in Grand Cayman, so you will now see them more often in residential areas to feed and nest. Please help to protect these birds and all our Cayman creatures! Plant a mango, smokewood, parrot berry or other local fruiting tree that they can eat. If you have a dead or intrusive Royal Palm, almond, seagrape, please do not cut it down. These birds nest in the natural hollows or will create a hollow in a dead Royal Palm. (If you have a Royal Palm that is a problem and cannot be moved just cut the top out and it will die and the woodpeckers and parrots will nest in it, bringing you many moments of enjoyment!) If you are blessed to have them visit your yard ENJOY them! Even if they play with your clothes on the line! They are beautiful, smart and fun! If you have any bird in a cage, especially a parrot, be sure it has lots of room and safe toys to play with. Interact with it regularly. They are super intelligent and love attention. Fruit growers, farmers.....please share your crops with them...so many crops go to waste at the end of a season. At this time of year the parrots are a wonderful feature in the QE2 Botanic Park as they are very busy feed their young, making their presence very well known as they move around the park! Another reason to visit there!
1/3 of the worlds parrots are endangered and threatened with extinction, including our 2 sub-species. This is our National Bird, a National Symbol, a National Treasure that was here long before any of us were. Learn more about them and let us all strive to live in harmony with our beloved wildlife and each other! Locals, please join the National Trust for the Cayman Islands, as they strive to protect all things Cayman for us all! Happy World Parrot Day! 💚 🦜💚

Todays private tour included sightseeing, Pedro St. James, the QE2 Botanic Park, Beacon Farms, Lunch at Over the Edge and the Blow Holes! And yes, that young little 90 year old did it ALL!!!

The QE2 Botanic Park is alive with color! There are also interesting creature features! It is not every day I see a snake pick up a dead green iguana baby and take it across the road to eat it!!! See in the comments section! On a visit with the Cayman Islands Garden Club!

I just recieved my International Tour Guide Certificate of Achievement today! A BIG THANK YOU to the Ministry of Tourism and the Honorable Minister Kenneth Bryan for making this course available! I am now looking forward to the day when global leaders will remove the policies and mandates that make it extremely untenable if not impossible for people to travel anywhere. It is time to get our life and freedoms and worldwide tourism back! I certainly look forward to seeing my previous guests again and welcoming new ones! Until then....wash your hands, boost your immune system and live life with hope and gratitude wherever you are!!! Great news today! Our borders will open to visitors (without quarantine) who are vaccinated on Nov. 20th. I hope we will open to unvaccinated visitors soon too!
