The Lao New Year, called Pi May, is coming soon! Celebrated every year in Laos, people are looking forward to this festival. This year the celebrations will be from April 14 to 16, 2022! This year we will celebrate the year 2564 for Lao people.
This festival related to Theravāda Buddhism, is also celebrated in Burma, Cambodia, Thailand and among the Dai of Yunnan.

Here at Namkhan Ecolodge, you can learn all about organic farming in one of our Organic Farm Experience workshops. You will learn the complete cycle from saving seeds to harvesting crops, including the importance of spacing, caring for crops and how to deter bugs and insects naturally.
Our Lao farmers have a wealth of knowledge from different sources such as family history, agricultural degree’s and from our international consultant, Jo-Anne Dorrington.
We offer a variety of packages in terms of length and depth of training to suit individual and corporate needs.

Namkhan Project and Organic Farm which is located in Luang Prabang in Northern Laos started in 2016 with the creation of an organic farm and the erection of 9 greenhouses enabling the production of vegetables all year round.
In recent times, our organic farm supplied our ‘Farm to Table’ restaurant along with a small number of hotels and restaurants in Luang Prabang looking for fresh organic produce but with the reduction of guests and many closures due to the Covid19 crisis we decided to take to the road and deliver to individuals during lockdown.
When tourism returns to normal we may not have the capacity to deliver around Luang Prabang and whilst our priority will always be to our guests staying and eating at our restaurant, our products will be available to purchase from our ecolodge.

Namkhan Ecolodge is located just 15 minutes drive from the UNESCO World Heritage City of Luang Prabang in Northern Laos and is the perfect setting for a retreat due to its remote appearance. Our ecolodge which is surrounded on 3 sides by the Nam Khan River is set in natural tropical gardens and offers the perfect opportunity to reconnect with nature and escape the general busyness of modern day life.
Retreats of 4 or 6 nights are available throughout the year and are often organised around traditional Lao or yogic celebrations to provide our guests with an authentic cultural experience.
Yoga and Qi Kong classes take place on our outdoor yoga platform which offers amazing views of the Nam Khan River, classes are taught in English with fully qualified teachers.
Our Organic Farm supplies fruit and vegetables to our ‘Farm to Table’ restaurant located in the heart of the ecolodge so whether you choose a yoga or detox retreat, you can guarantee the plant based menu will be fresh, healthy and balanced.

Namkhan Ecolodge is home to the first horse riding stables in Luang Prabang. Our horses have come from the wild or have been rescued from mountainous hard labour.
They have been trained by Aurore Kiatikhéma Saithavy who has over 25 years experience with horses and uses ethology to train them without the use of a bit in their mouth.
Our next pony camp runs from 14-17th August and offers a full programme of activities over 4 days including; art and craft workshops, kayaking/tubing, biscuit making (for the horses) yoga and much much more with optional overnight stays.
Your children can participate in the full programme or pick and choose their favourite activities.

Our Zero Waste
On 19th May we shared a post listing the top 10 benefits of buying and eating organic produce. The article also touched on the environmental factors and whilst we protect ourselves from pesticides and other nasty chemicals, it’s important we extend this to protect the planet for future generations.
Here at Namkhan Ecolodge NamKhan Project and Organic Farm in Luang Prabang Laos we are doing our best to be the change we all long to see by reducing what need, reusing what we can, and composting wherever possible, working towards a ZERO WASTE future.
Living without waste means a more conscious approach to your consumer choices, with one small step at a time you won’t just be saving the environment by reducing your ecological footprint, you’ll be eating healthier, feeling better and saving money!
Here’s how you can help....
1. Purchase a reusable beaker for your fruit shakes, bubble tea, coffee and other beverages - take it everywhere with you!
2. Purchase a reusable shopping bag - Free the Bears has a great bag for 60,000kip which means you’re also supporting a great charity
3. Use locally made bamboo baskets for shopping & deliveries - available at Namkhan Ecolodge from 35,000kip and supporting local people.
4. Minimise food waste, plan your meals, give fruit/vegetable peels and leftovers to farm animals or your local chicken owner.
5. Make your own compost with fruit and vegetable parts, eggshells,coffee grounds, unbleached paper, tea bags and much more. Keep for your land or provide to a local farmer.
6. Re-use glass jars for jams, pickles and storage.
7. Minimise your cleaning products. To make your own, mix 1⁄2 cup white distilled vinegar with 1 cup water, and add 10 to 20 drops of tea tree, lavender, lemon or eucalyptus essential oil.
