The Chouf Cedars Nature Reserve extends over three forests, Barouk, covering 400 ha is the largest, Masser el Chouf despite being the smallest forest and spread over some 16 ha is home to the most ancient cedars and the so called Lamartine Cedar named for the famous French poet who visited here. Ain Zhalta comprises around 240 ha and is especially recommended for bird and other animal watchers. Access to the three forests is via one of the four main entrances Barouk, Masser al Chouf, Ain Zhalta and Niha.
