This fun filled day begins when you meet with your guide inside your St. Lucia cruise ship terminal. You'll be shown to comfortable, and air-conditioned transportation for the 30-minute, scenic drive to the north-east end of St. Lucia. By the time you arrive at the tram you will be fully immersed in the rainforest and its beauty will amaze you. Before your ride you will be given brief safety instructions. You may also store your belongings in lockers at the site. Locker cost is $3.00 USD plus a $5.00 USD deposit. You'll then head to your gondola shaped tram that will seat 8 passengers and 1 guide who is, typically, a naturalist and can explain much about the sights you are about to see. The walk from the entrance to the Aerial Tram is 164 ft (50 meters) and you would have an amazing view from tallest part of the Aerial Tram, 120 ft (36 meters)! The Castries Waterworks Reserve is the oldest protected forest area on St. Lucia and is the preferred habitat of most of the tropical birds found on the island. Make sure to keep an eye out for them as you are traveling down through the forest. This reserve is actually so well protected that on the 25th of November, 2016, Prince Harry officially designated the Castries Water Works Reserve and surrounding rainforest as Saint Lucia's contribution to The Queen's Commonwealth Canopy Project. As you descend, your guide will point out specific areas and give you fascinating information. As mentioned before, be sure to keep an eye out for tropical birds and you'll want to keep that camera ready as well. You will have the ability to see far more of the rainforest than you could have by merely hiking the trails. The tram ride is approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes. Once the aerial tram comes to an end, you'll have a bit of time to do just that, you would have a 20-minute hike to explore a few of the trails. This is optional, of course. You'll still be accompanied by a naturalist who can now explain the tropical foliage you see once you are on land. You'll learn about the medicinal properties, the spices found here, even the length of a tropical blossom's life, and much more on your hike. The trails are easy, but comfortable walking shoes are still recommended. If you are not in the mood to walk the trail, you can relax at the coffee/gift shop deck and still admire the nature of the place. Once that time comes to an end, you can board your transportation again and sit back and relax. You'll be returned to your St.
