In celebration of Earth Day 2025, the SLHTA and the SUNx Institute have officially signed a groundbreaking MOU to accelerate the transition to a climate-resilient, low-carbon tourism industry in Saint Lucia.

The agreement signals a shared commitment to protecting the planet and empowering communities through climate-smart tourism initiatives. The partnership will support SLHTA member companies in aligning their operations with the principles of Climate Friendly Travel (CFT)—travel that is measured, green, 2050-ready, and climate-resilient, as defined by the SUNx Institute / SUNx Malta.

SUNx, a global leader in CFT development, offers research, education and operational support to help destinations, businesses and travelers take action to meet the goals of the United Nations 2030/2050 Green and Clean Roadmap. Participants will be included in the CFT Registry, connecting Saint Lucia to an expanding global ecosystem of responsible travel businesses and environmentally conscious consumers.

Who Will Take Home the Prestigious People’s Choice Award? 🇱🇨

As the third annual GIMIES gears up on April 12, 2025, the tourism and hospitality industry takes centre stage once again. This year’s ceremony highlights the exceptional contributions made by individuals and businesses who consistently promote Saint Lucia as a prime destination.

Out of the thirty awards or GIMIES being presented on the evening, fifteen individual and fifteen businesses will be winners. Adding to the lure and excitement of the evening is the presentation of special recognition awards, the Lifetime Achiever for 2024/25 and of course, a crowd favourite, the People’s Choice Award.

After several weeks of voting and verifying the results, the following candidates emerged as the top three in the race for People’s Choice:

-Alvin Fanis, Proprietor, ATV Direct
-Ile Dominique, Smoothie Boat Vendor on Sugar Beach
-Marva Williams, Tour Guides Supervisor, SRDF

The winner of the coveted GIMIES People’s Choice Award will be announced at The GIMIES on April 12, 2025, along with the over 30 presentations.

The GIMIES is proudly presented by the Ministry of Tourism, Saint Lucia Tourism Authority and Saint Lucia Hospitality and Tourism Association (Tourism Enhancement Fund).

The gala event will be live streamed on youtube.com/ and The GIMIES social media platforms.

Tourism’s Multi-Faceted Impact on Lives and Communities 🇱🇨

“When I received this scholarship, it was more than just an award. It was a symbol of belief—in my potential, my hard work, and my dreams.” ✨ – Stephanie Haynes, one of the first recipients of the Eileen Paul Scholarship.

At the SLHTA's Annual General Meeting in March, Stephanie shared how the scholarship helped her focus on her education, access better learning materials, and even write some of her CSEC subjects early.

Awarded annually by the SLHTA’s Tourism Enhancement Fund, the Eileen Paul Scholarship provides financial assistance to secondary school students whose parents are employed in the hospitality industry.
