The SLHTA is thrilled to celebrate Bay Gardens Resorts as it embarks on its 30th Anniversary Celebrations, officially launched on Thursday, January 30, 2025.

Founded in 1995 by Desmond and Joyce Destang, Bay Gardens Resorts is a renowned group of Saint Lucian-owned and operated hotels. 🇱🇨

The chain began humbly with the then 45-room Bay Gardens Hotel, and has blossomed into an impressive portfolio including Bay Gardens Inn, Bay Gardens Beach Resort & Spa, Bay Gardens Marina Haven, Waters Edge Villas and the upcoming Sapphire Sands Villas.

Bay Gardens’ 30-year journey is a remarkable story of innovation, hard work and a commitment to the growth of Saint Lucia’s tourism sector. To mark this incredible milestone, the company will host a year-long series of activities.

SLHTA President Erwin Louisy lauded the chain, stating “For the past three decades, Bay Gardens has played a pivotal role in shaping Saint Lucia’s tourism landscape, consistently offering exceptional service, local authenticity, and world-class experiences to visitors. Their commitment to nation-building was further strengthened last September with the creation of the Bay Gardens Community Fund, an initiative aimed at supporting community development, education and empowerment across Saint Lucia. The SLHTA has long been proud to witness the company’s exceptional growth, and today, we celebrate their remarkable achievements with them. On behalf of the Board of Directors, Management and Staff of the SLHTA, I wish to congratulate the entire Bay Gardens family on this milestone achievement.”

The Saint Lucia Hospitality and Tourism Association (SLHTA) is proud to announce the appointment of Erwin Louisy as its new President, effective January 28, 2025.

Ms. Louisy’s appointment was unanimously endorsed by the SLHTA Board of Directors, a strong testament to the confidence the Association’s leadership has in her vision and capabilities. Her election also marks a historic milestone—she becomes the first tourism services provider to lead the SLHTA in its more than 60-year history, breaking the tradition of hoteliers holding this esteemed position.

A seasoned professional with over 30 years of industry expertise, Ms. Louisy is the President and CEO of Barefoot Holidays, an award-winning Destination Management Company (DMC) in Saint Lucia. Her impressive track record in destination management, marketing, service delivery, and contract negotiations has positioned her as a key figure in the sector. Within the SLHTA, she has made significant contributions, serving as Director for the DMC sub-sector, 2nd Vice President, and Vice President.

SLHTA CEO Noorani Azeez welcomed the appointment, stating: “We are thrilled to have President Louisy at the helm of the SLHTA. Her extensive experience, visionary leadership, and passion for sustainable tourism will undoubtedly drive the Association to new heights, fostering continued growth and innovation within the sector. Her appointment also signals the evolution of our industry, recognizing the critical role that tourism service providers play in shaping Saint Lucia’s tourism product.”

Ms. Louisy succeeds Mr. Paul Collymore, who has served with distinction as SLHTA President since April 2021.

At a meeting held on Wednesday, January 22nd 2025 at the Harbor Club, the SLHTA continued productive discussions with Inspector Brigette Algodel of the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) to enhance collaboration on security matters impacting the tourism sector.

The meeting, attended by SLHTA CEO Noorani Azeez and Business Development Officer Juliet Sutherland, focused on identifying opportunities to further safeguard the visitor experience and ensure Saint Lucia’s reputation as a premier travel destination.

Key topics discussed included:

- Streamlining Police Reporting Processes: The SLHTA and RSLPF explored ways to optimize the delivery of police reports for insurance claims, aiming to create a more efficient system to better serve visitors and stakeholders.

-Strengthening Police Presence in Key Areas: Discussions centered on bolstering security efforts in popular tourist destinations such as Rodney Bay, Marigot Bay, Gros Islet, and Soufriere to provide enhanced reassurance and a heightened sense of safety for all.

-Improving Beach Experiences for Visitors: Collaborative strategies were discussed to ensure that all visitors enjoy a positive and uninterrupted experience on Saint Lucia’s beaches, reinforcing the country’s reputation for warm hospitality.

-Advancing Training for Hotel Security Personnel: The SLHTA expressed its commitment to working with the RSLPF to provide specialized training for hotel security officers, equipping them with the skills needed to complement law enforcement efforts and enhance on-property safety.

Additionally, the meeting highlighted the importance of establishing clear communication protocols between the RSLPF and SLHTA members. Plans are also underway to facilitate a meeting between Inspector Algodel and the heads of security within SLHTA member organizations to strengthen collaboration and share best practices.

Inspector Algodel reaffirmed the RSLPF’s commitment to working closely with the SLHTA to address these priorities. Both parties agreed on the importance of continued dialogue and collaboration to further enhance safety and security measures within the tourism industry.

The SLHTA remains dedicated to partnering with the RSLPF to provide a secure and enjoyable experience for all who visit and invest in Saint Lucia.
