You will head first to Castries Cathedral located in the island's capital. Over 200 years old, this is the largest and oldest church on the island and is also known as the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. Along side, strangely enough, stands the oldest tree on the island - perhaps even the oldest tree in the Caribbean, a 400-year-old Seasaman or rain tree. Morne Fortune are known as the historical ruins of the island and have withstood some of the most intense battles of our colonial era. These ancient army barracks were chess pieces for battling French and British armies who fought for possession of the island back in the 1700s. In present day, they stand tall as the housing of the island's only community college, a testimony to the strength of its architecture. A fun visit to Caribelle Batik or Bagshaws Studio will allow you to observe the art of batik and silk screen work. Your guide will explain more about the art on site. Not only will you learn about the art but you will also have the chance to purchase it. There is a brief stop at a local banana plantation, the Roseau Banana Plantation, where you will sample a taste of St. Lucia's sweetest and most important agricultural export. As an integral part of St Lucia's growth and heritage, you will learn about the process of growing and caring for the islands main agricultural export. Continuing on for a bird's eye view of Marigot Bay, this location became famous as a setting in movies such as the original 1960s version of Dr. Doolittle and the 1970's Sophia Loren film, Fire Power. Marigot Bay boasts a secure cove and spectacular scenery and is one of the most beautiful sites on St Lucia. Be sure to bring your camera to capture some amazing photos. Bringing you to the highlight of this guided sightseeing cruise excursion, the St Lucia Distillery. You will not only learn more about the island's history of sugar and rum but also see its detailed distillation process, visit a typical rum shop and taste over 18 different samples of rum! Flavors range from orange to ginger, cocoa to peanut, coffee to coconut but to name a few. There is also a display of St Lucia's colorful Caribbean culture. The distillery visit lasts approximately 40 minutes. There is a lunch stop at a Creole style restaurant where you can enjoy authentic island cuisine at its mouthwatering finest - purchases are extra. Guests may also just choose to sit and enjoy the view of the Pitons. When time is up, return to your St. Lucia cruise pier with your guide. Due to the alcohol sampling, all guests must be over 18 years old.
