St. Lucia Black Finch

A highly endangered St. Lucia endemic. This is a female identified by its contrasting gray head and pink legs. Males are all jet black. They are uncommon and locally distributed mostly in montane forests with a total population estimated at less than 1000. It has been linked to “Darwin’s Finches” of the Galapagos, but that relationship is only weakly supported. Like many neotropical “finches” this one has been moved from the Sparrow family (Emberizidae) to the Tanager family (Thraupidae).

What an incredible moment for St. Lucia! 🇱🇨 Our very own Julien Alfred has made history as the first person to bring home a gold medal from the Olympics! 🥇 We couldn't be more proud of her hard work, dedication, and the way she has represented our nation on the world stage. Congratulations, Julien—you've inspired an entire generation and made us all believe that anything is possible!

In the hush of Soufriere’s night, as stars adorn the velvet sky, the northern view unfolds a breathtaking tapestry. The town below, bathed in a soft glow, cradles the rhythmic whispers of the ocean. Majestic Pitons stand sentinel, silhouetted against the cosmic canvas, painting a scene where nature’s beauty and tranquility dance in harmony. Lucia
