Other things to note
Getting there Batticaloa, or 'Batti' as the locals call it, is like travelling back in time. Batticaloa's past has been tumultuous to say the least. They say Batti has been inhabited for thousands of years. The Portuguese arrived back in the 17th century, they got kicked out by the Dutch, who, in turn, got booted out by the English, but not before leaving Batticaloa with its sturdy old Fort and the lagoon front house where you will stay. It's really a special place to roam about and we love coming here for the combination of culture, natural beauty and the people.
