Jeep safari in Sri Lanka ๐Ÿ˜๐ŸฆŒ๐Ÿฆš

A jeep safari is a thrilling way to explore Sri Lanka's stunning national parks and see the country's incredible wildlife up close. These open-air vehicles allow you to get off the beaten path and deep into the heart of the parks, where you can spot elephants, leopards, bears, deer, and many kinds of birds.

The Experience:๐Ÿš™๐Ÿš™

Sunrise or Sunset:
Many safaris offer dawn or dusk excursions. Witnessing the golden light bathe the landscape as animals emerge from their slumber or return to their dens adds a magical touch.

Off-road Adventure:
Feel the adrenaline rush as your jeep navigates dusty tracks, weaving through grasslands and skirting past watering holes. The open-air design offers unobstructed panoramic views.

Expert Guidance:
Your experienced driver-guide will not only navigate the terrain but also share their knowledge of the park's ecosystem, pointing out animal tracks, unique bird calls, and interesting plant life.

Animal Encounters:
Imagine the thrill of coming face-to-face with a majestic elephant herd blocking the path, or the heart-pounding excitement of spotting a elusive leopard gracefully padding through the tall grass. Prepare for close encounters with deer, monkeys, crocodiles, and a dazzling array of birdlife.

Tips for Planning:๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ

Responsible Tourism:-Choose a tour operator committed to ethical wildlife viewing practices. Look for companies that maintain a safe distance from animals and prioritize their well-being.

Packing Essentials:- Pack comfortable clothing in neutral tones that blend with the environment, a hat for sun protection, sunglasses, and sturdy shoes. Don't forget insect repellent, sunscreen, and a good camera.

Be Prepared: - Early mornings and evenings can be chilly, so bring a light jacket. Binoculars will enhance your wildlife viewing experience. Bring plenty of water and snacks for a longer safari.

The Pekoe Trail is a 300-kilometer curated long distance walking trail through the Central Highlands of Sri Lanka, often called Asia's best kept secret. The 22-stage walking trail takes you through some of the finest ecology and mountain terrain in South Asia, starting your journey in Kandy and winding your way to Nuwara Eliya, passing through Haputale, Hatton and Ella.

The Pekoe Trail is the first of its kind in Sri Lanka and offers a bucket list experience for avid hikers and nature enthusiasts.

Stage 2 of the Pekoe Trail is a hike from Galaha to Loolecondera, Sri Lanka. It is a challenging route, but it is also one of the most popular stages of the trail. The hike is divided into two sections: the first section from Galaha to Deltota, and the second section from Deltota to Loolecondera.

The first section of the hike is a short and rewarding hike. The first stretch is on the road toward Galaha General Hospital. From there, the trail climbs through a forest with stunning views of the surrounding mountains. This section of the hike is also home to the Ravanagama Temple, a Hindu temple that is said to be over 2,000 years old.

The second section of the hike is a longer and more challenging hike. The trail climbs through tea plantations and forests, and it offers stunning views of the Knuckles Mountain Range. This section of the hike is also home to James Taylor's Cottage, the birthplace of Ceylon tea

Nalanda Gedige is a stone remains of an 8th-10th century Hindu Dravidian style temple and Sri Lanka's center point. While built in the Dravidian style, Nalanda Gedige displays both Hindu and Buddhist elements. This unique fusion is evident in the mandapam (hall) and ambulatory path, typical of Hindu temples, yet it lacks Hindu deities and features Ta***ic Buddhist carvings similar to those found in Khajuraho, India.
Its original location was considered the geographical center of Sri Lanka, adding to its historical and cultural importance. Explore the ruins of the temple, marvel at the intricate carvings, and immerse yourself in the unique blend of Hindu and Buddhist influences.

Diving is the act of submerging oneself underwater, either recreationally or professionally. It can be a thrilling and rewarding experience, allowing people to explore a hidden world that is otherwise inaccessible. There are many different types of diving, each with its own unique appeal.

- Scuba diving: This is the most popular type of diving, and it involves using self-contained underwater breathing apparatus (scuba) to explore the underwater world. Scuba divers can descend to depths of up to 130 feet (40 meters) and stay underwater for extended periods of time.

- Free diving: This type of diving relies solely on breath-holding techniques to dive, and it can be both challenging and rewarding. Free divers can reach depths of up to 300 feet (91 meters) and hold their breath for several minutes.

- Snorkeling: This is a more relaxed form of diving, and it is a great way to explore the shallows. Snorkelers use a mask, snorkel, and fins to explore the underwater world.

- Technical diving: This is a specialized type of diving that requires advanced training and equipment. Technical divers can explore deeper and more challenging environments, such as shipwrecks and caves.

Diving offers a variety of benefits, both physical and mental. It can improve cardiovascular health, increase muscle strength, and reduce stress. Diving can also be a great way to connect with nature and learn about the underwater world.

If you are interested in trying diving, there are a few things you need to do first. You will need to take a diving certification course, which will teach you the basic skills and safety procedures necessary for diving. You will also need to purchase some basic diving equipment, such as a mask, fins, and a wetsuit.

Once you are certified and equipped, you can start exploring the underwater world! There are many dive sites around the world, each with its own unique offerings. Whether you want to see colorful coral reefs, majestic marine life, or historical shipwrecks, there is a dive site out there for you.

Sri Lanka, the โ€œPearl of the Indian Ocean,โ€ isnโ€™t just a land of lush rainforests, ancient temples, and rolling hills. Beneath its turquoise waters lies a vibrant tapestry of marine life, coral reefs pulsating with color, and historical shipwrecks waiting to be explored. Whether youโ€™re a seasoned diver or a curious beginner, Sri Lanka offers an unforgettable underwater adventure. Within Asia, Sri Lanka stands out as a remarkable destination for diving enthusiasts due to its diverse coral reefs and its rich maritime history. Some shipwrecks date back over 300 years and some of them feed marine life. Prepare to be amazed by touring the diving sites around Sri Lanka, a blend of history and marine ecosystem awaiting beneath the waves.

With at least 10 coral reef dive spots to pick from, such as Hikkaduwa Gala or Barracuda Point, and plenty of shipwrecks around at less than 30 meters deep, Hikkaduwa and Unawatuna are perfect to begin a diving adventure.

The shallow reefs in Negombo and Kalpitiya offer accessible and gratifying diving experiences and varied marine life. An extra touch of excitement is added by the possibility of spotting dolphins and whales during the journey to and from the sites.

Passikudah, also on the east coast, offers easily accessible and fascinating sites such as the Passikudah reef, Boiler Wrecks, and renowned British Sergeant wreck.

Although long known for whale watching, Mirissa also has six exciting diving sites. For beginners, Lopsta Point is ideal to practice scuba diving, while experienced divers will be challenged by Aththalaba Point. Napoleon Point,Reef Point and Godagala Point are spectacular sites in their own right.

Kirinda holds a distinct allure. It is particularly renowned for the Little and Great Basses wrecks, although these sites are mostly accessible during March and April; the waters are too turbulent during the rest of the year to make the diving experience worthwhile. While Kirinda itself lacks a dive center, the centers in Mirissa and Hikkaduwa can accommodate requests.

Situated just off Nilaveli Beach, this shallow dive site teems with both soft and hard corals (table, sun, whip, and anemone soft corals), tropical fish (moorish idol, scorpionfish, and lionfish), and other creatures (turtles, stingrays, and shrimp).

A 10-minute boat ride from Nilaveli Beach, Sithanane Pare offers an initial descent of 5 meters from the top of the rocks and a gradual descent of 15 meters. Ideal for both beginners and advanced divers, you will be mesmerized by the diverse marine life, including scorpionfish, anemone fish, and moray eels.

This extraordinary diving spot beneath the Trincomalee harbor was created in 2020 by the Sri Lanka Navy to explore the wrecks and underwater museum of figures and military equipment.

Located inside the Pigeon Island Marine National Park, this is a splendid spot for discovering corals and fish. A shallow site, itโ€™s ideal whether a beginner or macro photography enthusiast. Pigeon Rocks is home to a variety of moray eels, anemone fish, lionfish, parrot fish, lobsters, and more. Access to the Pigeon Rocks requires purchasing an Entrance Ticket to the Pigeon Island Marine National Park.

On the eastern coast, Trincomaleeโ€™s renowned Nilavelli beach is the underwater paradise gateway most divers eagerly visit. Pigeon Island Marine Life Sanctuary (a garden of coral reefs with colorful marine life) and the Irrakkandy ship wreck (the 18th-century steamer that sank close to the Trincomalee coast) are also popular sites.

Despite Colomboโ€™s bustling urban life, Colomboโ€™s waters house up to 15 shipwrecks at various diving sites such as Chief Dragon (Car Wreck), Nilgiri (Tug Wreck), Thermopylae Sierra, Clarkeโ€™s Wreck, Battery Barge, Serendib Reef, Snapper Alley, Galle Face Point, Mid Point, Panadura Wreck, Ten Fathoms, Palagala and Pandoraโ€™s Box.

These sunken vessels not only possess a remarkable beauty, but they provide a habitat for marine life, including formidable predators like octopuses, lionfish, and moray eels. For any diving enthusiasts, Colombo is a must-visit site.
