The Hospital site-Mihintale.
Sri Lanka.

This can be the most famous examples of ancient advanced indigenous medical system of the country .
The chinese traveller ,Monk Fa Hsien in the 4 th century noted nearly 2000 monks living at Mihintale. According to the history ,king Sena the second (853-887 AC) has founded a hospital on the Cetiya mountain.
The Jetawanarama slab inscription mentions that king Mahinda the forth (952-972 AC) built a hospital.
An inscription dating back to the 10 th century found in nearby guardstone , we find an evidence of a land granted for the maintenance of a hospital.
The medicinal boat found here may have been used for diseases such as theumatism. This trough was filled with medicinal water and the patients were made to lie down therein for treatments.
