In september 2023 we have made a beautiful tour during about three weeks on the island of Sri Lanka. The last time we visited Sri Lanka was in 1998. The focus of this tour was on that parts of Sri Lanka we were not allowed to go to in 1998. So we stayed a few days on the impressive peninsula of Jaffna and of course we have visited the special sights of the city herself. And Trincomalee and Batticaloa were also parts of the program. We stayed a few days in the fantastic resort Maalu Maalu; a perfect choice of Islands Adventures to come to rest. Highlights were further the climb on the Lion Rock in Sigirya, the complex of caves in Dambulla and the heavy walk through the Horton Plains to Worlds End.

The quality of the chosen hotels was very good. We want to pay special attention to the hotels Maalu Maalu Resort, Tree House in the National Park (a nice place to stay) and the hotel in Kitulgala. This is a small hotel “in the middle of nowhwere” with very friendly and helpful staff.

Islands Adventures had teken an excellent guide. He could tell us all about the culture, the nature (including wildlife) and the history. And of course the role of the Dutch in the history of Sri Lanka had his and our special interest (Dutch Fort, Dutch Church, Dutch Canal, Dutch Bay). And also about problems on the global scale we had good and interesting conversations. He was also a perfect driver and did not take unnecessary risks.



The tour program was balanced and we have visited beatiful locations. De travel distances were not too long and the guide was prepared to listen to our wishes and had sometimes nice proposals for interesting objects such as travelling along the Viyana Canal.



Thanks to Islands Adventures we had a tour on Sri Lanka we will never forget.

We are thrilled to announce that Sri Lanka was honored with the Best Wider World Tourism Project award last night in London at the prestigious British Guild of Travel Writers International Awards 2023.

This award validates the efforts of European Union in Sri Lanka and the Maldives and USAID Sri Lanka to revive the local tourism industry by innovating and celebrating authentic travel to attract travelers keen to explore Sri Lanka on foot.

We thank all our partners who make this Trail possible including Tourism Sri Lanka , the tea industry and plantations companies.
