End March, I guided Jack from Singapore and his Japanese friends who are working for Shimano company.
We had some very challenging fishing conditions but I still managed to put them on some fish. Lots of baits on the popping spots but due to poor current GT's were coming to hunt them in very short and specific time of the day. Jigging was also not easy, but guys caught some fish.
That trip was very enjoyable because despite tough fishing conditions, the guys never gave up and their effort have been rewarded.
Well done guys and see you again in Sri Lanka.

Mid March, I had some day charters with regular Russians anglers. They had fun on jigging catching variety of fish. Popping has been more challenging due to poor current close to the coast.

After their 4 days fishing at sea our Dutsh anglers spent 2 days at Bolgoda. Michiel had some good fun with nice size mangrove jack, but he has been really unlucky with barramundi loosing 2 nice fish, especially the Barramundi on the second day, which was really big, maybe the biggest barramundi of the season. His friend, who caught mainly juvenile GT and small mangrove jack, lost a featherback, but didn't have the chance to get barramundi bite.

All in all, it has been 2 nice fishing day at Bolgoda despite loosing some fish, but that's fishing 😉

End February, beginning of March I had a nice trip with dutch anglers.
They started their holidays with a nice touristic trip around Sri Lanka and finished with 4 days popping and jigging + 2 days at Bolgoda Lake.
As you can see on the following pics they had great action at sea. The first 2 days have been a bit challenging but the last 2 days fish were on fire, offering some good action on popping to them.

End February, I had some challenging fishing days charter due to some poor current making the predators not hungry despite lot of baits on our popping and jigging spots. But I managed to found some active fish for our customers. Here are some pictures of their catch.

Just after the fishing days with the japanese, I had a nice GT fishing charter with young German anglers, who came in Sri Lanka for holidays and we're dreaming catching their first GT's. During their trip they tried fishing from shore but they haven't any success and before to back in Germany booked a day fishing with us at last minute.
We had a nice day, no big fish but as the guys were fishing with their own tackle which was light (pe 3-4) they had great fun to catch these small GT's.

Well done guys and see you next year for a proper GT popping trip with us to target bigger fish 😉

After their 2 amazing fishing days at Bolgoda with Barramundi, the japanese have been fishing 2 days exclusively for GT's on popping.
Fishing conditions have been a bit challenging with a poor current, making the GT's not so aggressive, but the guys are experienced anglers and managed to decide some nice fish like the nice black GT caught by Morish*ta san.
Here are the highlight pictures of their catch.

The guys really really enjoyed their 4 days fishing in Sri Lanka with us and have already book a trip for next season, can't wait to see you again for some new fishing adventure.

Very late with the fishing reports as I am really busy guiding clients everyday. Mid February I received the second group of Morish*ta san who has fished 2 days for GT on popping and 2 days at Bolgoda Lake for Barramundi. Here is the report of the 2 days fishing at Bolgoda. They had an absolute blast with the barramundi, they caught a total of 23 barramundi plus so nice Mangrove Jack and featherback, then no need to talk much about it pictures are talking by themself. Certainly the best trip at Bolgoda these season so far.

Just after I finished the fishing trip with the German anglers, I had a popping day charter with Jo from Norway and Claudio from Switzerland. Both were dreaming to catch their first GT's, mission has been completed for Claudio who caught 3 GT, but unfortunately for Jo despite lot of efforts he missed twice his dream fish. Congratulations for Claudio, and Jo I know you will be back soon in Sri Lanka to take your revenge 😉

Few days after I finished guiding the Japanese group, I received Christian and Sebastian from Germany for a GT popping trip.
The first 2 days have been really good and produced some big GT's. The next days have been also ok but fish were less aggressive on biting their poppers. Here are highlights pictures of their catch.

After their 2 days at sea for GT on popping, japanese anglers spent 2 days at Bolgoda for Barramundi.
Morish*ta san has been the lucky one to catch nice barramundi, the two others guys unfortunately missed some nice fish, but they caught plenty of mangrove jack. On that trip, only one featherback has been caught and by me while showing them how to use fitness lures.

All in all it has been a good trip despite some nice fish missed or lost at sea and at Bolgoda Lake. Guys really enjoyed their 4 days fishing in Sri Lanka and already plan to come back next season ☺️

I had a very nice day fishing guiding German couple who were traveling in Sri Lanka. They caught 2 nice wild golden barramundi and plenty of usual mangrove jack. Well done 👍🏻

Nice popping and jigging day charter with Simon from France, who was dreaming to catch a GT. Mission accomplished as he caught his first ever GT on jigging the morning. I was also fishing with him and I caught an amberjack and dogtooth tuna. In the afternoon, we reached our popping spots and Simon caught a nice GT and missed a monster one just before to get back to the harbour.
Well done Simon, now you must come back to have your revenge on the big one 😉

Last week, I had a nice mix trip Bolgoda Lake and GT popping with japanese anglers. Fishing at Bolgoda produce some nice Barramundi as this one caught by Morish*ta san.

Just after Grégoire and Manon trip, I guided Marc and Matthias also for a trip for GT's and at Bolgoda Lake.
At sea, we mainly focused on popping, activity was a bit slow but the guys managed to caught some decent fish, the highlights were a crazy attack of a GT on Matthias popper close to the boat and an estimated 200 kg black Marlin chasing bonitos in surface.
At Bolgoda, Matthias caught 2 golden barra, but one has been lost just before I put him in the landing net. He also caught a nice featherback and some nice mangrove jack. Marc has been unlucky on that fishing day, as he drop most of the fish he hooked. Let's get your revenge at Bolgoda next time 😉

Gregoire & Manon came in Sri Lanka for their honey moon and as they are keen anglers on the Southwest of France, they booked 2 days fishing to end their trip.
First day, I guided them at Bolgoda, where they had great fun catching mangrove jack. Gregoire caught a nice featherback and lost a big Barra, which was his main target, next time 😉
Second day, we have been for some popping and jigging. On the first spot Manon caught her first ever GT. And few spots later it was Gregoire who caught his first GT. As they also wanted to try for some jigging action, we reach our first spot where we found lot of birds and many skipjack tuna and small yellowfin tuna busting in the area. Manon who was jigging for the first time, hooked a really big fish. That fish was taking lot of line and was often changing direction. Manon, who has the habit to fight bluefin tuna in France, was keeping pressure on that fish at the limit of the rod capacity. Unfortunately the 100lb leader broke after a while. We continue to jig on the area but fish I spotted on the sonar, were moving too fast and as the wind started to picked up, I decide to reach our popping spots. Despite some choppy sea, Gregoire and Manon caught 2 more GT's on popper.
They had two great fishing days and I had good time with them talking with them. I wish you all the best for your couple life and I will may see you in France.

I started the year 2024 with a popping and jigging day charter. Francesco from Switzerland was traveling in Sri Lanka and as a keen angler wanted to catch his first ever GT's.
He caught 2 GT's in the morning and it was already very happy. We tried some jigging spots and we found some good activity, but fish weren't really keen to bite his jig. He just caught a nice rainbow runner.
After lunch, we came back on our popping ground. First spots, we didn't found active fish. It's only when the wind started to pick it up, I spotted some baits in surface who were harassing by a predator and as soon as the popper of Francesco landed close by, a big GT engulfed his lure. I immediately informed Francesco he was tight with a big fish. After an intense fight he landed a stocky GT, we took quick pictures and release safely that beautiful fish.
What a day for Francesco ! He caught his first ever GT and also his personal best GT with this beast. As I told him, I know many expert GT anglers who are doing many fishing trip to achieve to catch a big GT like this. Then he need to appreciate this moment and keep in mind he won't catch another fish of that size before a while. Anyway, congratulations to Francesco !

Just before New Year, we had a very nice day charter with dads and their sons. From Sweden they were expert anglers casting lures for pike, zander and perch.
They caught 5 barramundi, some usual mangrove jack and oxeye tarpon. The biggest barra of the day has been sadly lost just before to land it.
It was a great fishing day for them and like they told us : "No better way to end our family trip in Sri Lanka".

First of all, me and all Sportfishing Lanka staff wish you an Happy New Year and we really hope you will catch some good fish for 2024 !
Since Christmas, I have been well busy with sea fishing charters, here are some highlights pictures of our clients catch. Some days have been great, with some good action on popping, but also some days have been more challenging due to some instable weather and fishing conditions. All in all, we have always managed to put our clients on some fish and sometimes big fish, but unfortunately most of them have been missed or lost. That's fishing.

Next report will be at Bolgoda, where I had a very good day charter with dads and sons.
