Congratulations to 25 youths who have completed their training to work in the tourism sector
On 12th December, H. E. Akio ISOMATA, Ambassador of Japan to Sri Lanka, visited Nuwara Eliya and attended the certificate award ceremony. This event, organised by the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka (FCCISL), aims to recognise Sri Lankan youths who have completed vocational training to work in the tourism sector.
This initiative is part of the "Supporting migrant returnees and communities in vulnerable situations to uplift their livelihoods, enhance their skills and promote safe and regular migration (UPLIFT)" project, which is funded by the Government of Japan and implemented by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the International Labour Organization (ILO).
The UPLIFT project seeks to address various challenges, such as lack of access to employment opportunities, faced by migrant returnees, and one of its efforts is to improve employability of migrant returnees by providing vocational training with FCCISL and the National Apprentice and Industrial Training Authority (NAITA) to enable Sri Lankan youths to work in the tourism sector, which is one of the major industries for Sri Lanka, and is the key area for the Government of Sri Lanka to achieve economic growth in the coming years.
In his remarks, Ambassador ISOMATA expressed his warm congratulations to the 25 young people who had completed their training in Nuwara Eliya. He sincerely hoped that all of them would contribute to development of the tourism sector, which is a strong driver of economic growth. Highlighting the ongoing Bandaranaike International Airport Development Project, and the Osaka-Kansai Expo in 2025, which presents a golden opportunity for Sri Lanka to showcase its rich heritage, he reaffirmed his commitment to contribute to accelerating the development of the tourism sector in Sri Lanka.
