Every year, the season takes place between the months of December to May. Approximately 4000 step walk to the top to see the place where Lord Buddha is believed to have left his footprint. The panoramic view around is beautiful and really worth the climb.

This bridge, which is almost 100 years old, has been built with blocks of stone and cement without any strengthening iron or concrete. The giant arches take the bridge on a curved path to link to mountains. The Bridge was commissioned in 1921 under the British Government.
There is a story behind it that you would love to hear.
The World War One broke out and the steel consignment allocated for this site was seized and was used for war related projects. When the work came to a stoppage the Sri Lankan (named Appuhami) came forward and build the bridge with solid stone bricks and cement without steel.

Swimming Elephants at Gal Oya National Park
There is plenty to see at the Gal Oya National Park such as the water body of the Senanayaka Reservoir, the spectacular sunrise, the wild life and extensive bird life and of course the Veddha Tribes. Veddhas are the indigenous people in Sri Lanka and they still live in the Nilgala area of the Gal Oya National Park. Visits to these clans can be organized and it is indeed an educational insight into the lifestyles of one of our oldest civilizations in Sri Lanka. The best times to visit the Park are during the months of March and July where the swimming elephants can be seen in abundance. They swim across the Reservoir to the islands in search of food and this is indeed an amazing sight.
