Born in 1975 I have a treasure trove of memories from living in various villages/ provinces in Sri Lanka, finally settling in Western province. I got this vibrant colour of experience thanks to my father’s profession who worked in the police department for nearly 38 years and left as a second in command of the police department in 2008.
I recall my first memory when I was only 3 when we lived in Kilinochchi (North). I remember how my father took me to the Grape farms where I enjoyed plucking grapes and then eating them! I enjoyed the rural life and miss it even now. I will always cherish the moments I spent in those villages, the paddy fields, big tall trees, eating wild fruits, yams, the list could go on.
I studied in a leading catholic school in Colombo and feel privileged to have been schooled there as it gave me good life skills and trained me to meet challenges head on. After school I joined the marketing field where I decided to become a marketer. I then worked in the Textile Industry, which was booming, for 14 years. I started with Tri Star Apparels (pvt) Ltd, as a trainee merchandiser soon after I was promoted to the position of merchandiser and reached to Merchandising/Marketing Manager. Unfortunately the textile industry declined after the twin towers attacks.
So in 2009 I enrolled with Sri Lanka Tourist Board completing a Diploma in Tourist Guiding. From then I’ve been working as a tourist guide escorting groups and individuals ensuring that they experience all that Sri Lanka has to offer. In order to provide a more exclusive service to my clients I became a life member at ‘Field Ornithology Group of Sri Lanka’ attached to Colombo University under Prof Sarath Kotagama obtaining birding qualifications. I have strong interests in wildlife, our culture and the beautiful Sri Lankan scenery.
