Another successful tour with my dear Frence Friends 🇫🇷 🇱🇰

Udawalawa National Park (උඩවලව) | 2024. 01. 01

With herds of elephants, wild buffalos, sambars and spotted deer, and giant squirrels, this Sri Lankan national park is one of the nation's finest. In fact, for elephant watching, Uda Walawe often surpasses many of the most famous East African national parks. The park, which centres on the 308.2-sq-km Uda Walawe Reservoir, is lightly vegetated, but it has a stark beauty, and the lack of dense vegetation makes game watching easy.

Elephants are Uda Walawe's key attraction, with around 600 in the park in herds of up to 50. There’s an elephant-proof fence around the perimeter of much of the park, (supposedly) preventing elephants from getting out into areas with a higher human population and cattle from getting in. Elephants can and do migrate into and out of the park along unfenced borders. The best time to observe herds is from 6.30am to 10am and again from 4pm to 6.30pm.

Alongside its famous elephant herds, the park is home to mongooses, jackals, water monitor lizards, lots of crocodiles, sloth bears and the occasional leopard. There are 30 varieties of snake and a wealth of birdlife – 210 species at last count; northern migrants join the residents between November and April.

A collection of memories from in Ella (ඇල්ල)

Ella is a small village in the highlands of Sri Lanka which is filled with tea estates, mountains, waterfalls and of course with some good air to breath.

Lots of people make Ella as one of their must visit destination just to witness the breathtaking views it creates. It is a dream place for many trekkers with some of the best hikes the Island provides. This hidden village got vastly popular among the tourists lately.

Views of mist and clouds covering the summits of the mountain range and the morning sun rise in Ella are spectacular scenes to witness and captured. After a fresh hike in the morning, hit a waterfall, grab some tasty Sri Lankan foods from somewhere with a beer, rest for a while and go for a railwalk to famous Nine Arch Bridge in the evening, you would sure love the all experience.

Ella got its own historic values with the link to the Legendary Ravana stories too. You can explore all of them while you are here.

Ella certainly a place with plenty of things to do which will keep you busy and happy.

If you are looking for a place to unwind from your busy lifestyle and to spend some peaceful, relaxed time with the nature, this is the place and you will leave Ella with some fond memories to last a life time!

Another successful tour with England family 🇬🇧🇱🇰
Madu ganga | 2023.10.14

The amphibic landscape of Madu ganga (Madu River) is Sri Lanka’s largest remaining mangrove swamp, home to several fish and reptile species. It’s a fantastic birding territory, too. Together with the smaller Randombe Lake, which is situated closer to the ocean, but further south, and linked with Madu River by two natural channels, it forms the Madu Ganga Wetland, inhabited by more than 300 species of plants and almost 250 species of vertebrate animals. Due to its rich biodiversity, Madu Ganga was listed under the International Ramsar Convention on Wetlands, an international treaty for the conservation and sustainable use of wetlands. The Convention on Wetlands is named after the city of Ramsar in Iran, where it was signed in 1971.

Halfway between the two popular coastal towns Bentota and Hikkaduwa, the mainroad A2 crosses the river mouth of the Madu Ganga. Farther upstream, this Madu River forms complicated network of mangrove swamps and a wide open lake dotted with islets. Both “32 islands” and “64 islands” are promonotional names for Madu Ganga Lake, though there are actually fewer islets. The lake is sometimes called lagoon. But it’s a river lagoon, the water is only slightly brackish, not as saline as seawater lagoons opening to the ocean. Madu Ganga could yet be called a freshwater lake. There are only two genuine seawater lagoons at Sri Lanka’s southwestern coast, namely Kalutara and Bentota. All the other so-called lagoons are linked to the ocean not by wide openings but by flowing narrow rivers. There is virtually a chain of such slightly saline river lagoons between Colombo and Galle, namely Bolgoda Lake in Moratuwa, Owinka Lake, Dedduwa Lake, Madu Ganga, Madampe Lake, Hikaduwa Ganga and Ratgama Lake, Madu Ganga being by far the largest of them.

Due to its location close to many popular beach resorts, Madu Ganga is a perfect destination for single-day excursions. Spending your holidays in the area between Beruwela and Galle, you should indeed not miss to enjoy this scenic boat ride. The Madu Ganga boat safari is an attraction rich in variety indeed. This activity will last for one and a half or two hours, in order to visit two islets and have time enough for a fish massage. The boat rides are on offer by several competing boat operators near the river mouth, located close to the main road.

Full boat ride itineraries should include the temple “Kothduwa Rajamaha Viharaya” as the farest point in 5 km distance and also visit Cinnamon Isle on the way and ride through two different stretches of mangrove forests and also come as closely as possible to the ocean.

Yala National Park | 2023.10.15

Yala (යාල) National Park is the most visited and second largest national park in Sri Lanka, bordering the Indian Ocean. The park consists of five blocks, with three of which are now open to the public. There are also two adjoining parks, Kumana National Park or 'Yala East' and Lunugamvehera National Park. The blocks have individual names, such as Palatupana (Block 1). It is situated in the southeastern region of the country, in the Southern Province and Uva Province. The park covers 979 square kilometres (378 sq mi) and is located about 300 kilometres (190 mi) from Colombo. Yala was designated as a wildlife sanctuary in 1900, along with Wilpattu, designated in 1938, as the first two designated national parks in Sri Lanka. The park is best known for its variety of wildlife and is important conservation of Sri Lankan elephants, Sri Lankan leopards and aquatic birds.

There are six national parks and three wildlife sanctuaries in the vicinity of Yala. Among the largest is Lunugamvehera National Park. The park is situated in the dry semi-arid climatic region and rain is received mainly during the northeast monsoon. Yala hosts a variety of ecosystems ranging from moist monsoon forests to freshwater and marine wetlands. It is one of the 70 Important Bird Areas (IBAs) in Sri Lanka. Yala harbors 215 bird species including six endemic species of Sri Lanka. The number of mammals that has been recorded from the park is 44, and it has one of the highest leopard densities in the world.

Galle Dutch Fort is the most beautiful coastal town in Sri Lanka. Here, life slows down as locals play cricket alongside the beach, travelers walk on the ancient fort walls, and street vendors sell fresh tropical fruit under the palm trees. Its history makes it a melting pot of culture, with a unique fusion of European and Asian influences, as seen in the whitewashed Dutch-style buildings that line the cobbled streets.
