Haputale (Uva Province), 1431,05 m above sea-level, is well known for highest tea quality since from the late 1860s. Lipton who built in 1890 the largest tea factory in Dambatenne. 1893 came the first train to Haputale. And with this trains lot of tourists to relax from the hot climate of the plains. Meanwhile there are plenty of accommodations and guides offering tours to sights like Lipton Seat,
Adisham Monestery, Horton Plains, World´s End, Ella, Bogoda Bridge, Buduruwagala and waterfalls like Bambarakanda (221 m), Diyaluma (191 m), Duhinda (59 m) and Rawana. You can make day walks in the estates or hikes alongside the railroad to Diyatalwa, Tangamalai Sanctury or Idalgashinna. Or visit the silent and clean Haputale city forest behind the forest department. You will see there some of largest trees, more than 40 m high and 5 m circumference. But also lot of beautiful and strange animals like deers, wild boars, handsize butterflies, horn lizards, colourful birds, frogs, beatles, centipedes, etc. Most of Sri Lankan games are around this town.
