Lotus Pond, Nelum Pokuna, Sri Lanka

The Nelum Pokuna or the Lotus Bath is a small stone bath of unique design, built in tiers of eight petalled lotuses in descending form.

The fine-cut granite is in excellent formation and an absolute delight to the modern-day tourist.

The chronicle speaks of a lotus bath among many ponds constructed by Parakramabahu the Great. It is believed to be the bath provided by the King for the monks belonging to the Jetavana Vihara.

Last year's Sri Lankan New Year's celebration with our long-term guests was amazing. The incredible Russian family (Nick, Anna, and Misha) stayed with us for five months and became family. Karl, from Germany, arrived in April, just before the New Year and stayed until December. He also became part of our extended family. One of the perks of the job is meeting and spending time with people from around the world. We couldn't ask for more!

“Underrated countries for food: Instead of India, try Sri Lanka
Why: You would travel to Sri Lanka just to eat – the food is that good. Often overshadowed by the diverse and widespread cuisine of India, Sri Lanka has plenty to offer, with a wide variety of dishes that are highly spiced and stupendously tasty, not to mention affordable.

Must try: There are two styles of dining you need to experience in Sri Lanka. The first is “rice and curry”. Everywhere you go, you will find small, budget-friendly restaurants serving just that, a smorgasbord of various dishes and sides you can help yourself to. The other style is “short eats”, or Sri Lankan snacks, the likes of spring-roll-style tubes filled with spiced fish and potato, roti wrapped around similar fillings, and Tamil-style vadas (fried chickpea-flour donuts).

Delve deeper: There’s one more style of cuisine in Sri Lanka that is an absolute must. As you wander around a market or city centre, keep an ear out for the “ting ting ting” of metal spatulas on a solid grill. That means someone is preparing kottu roti, a dish of chopped, fried roti with egg, vegetables and curry sauce.”

- The new web page to apply for e-visa: //www.srilankaevisa. lk
- Most Europeans can only apply for 60 days (within 6 month) visa.
- The new visa fee (including all the service charge) is 100.07 USD for most Europeans.
- Only turists from China, India, Indonesia, Russia, Thailand, Malaysia, and Japan get 30 days e-visa for free - until April 30th, 2024
- Citizens of The Republic of Singapore, The Republic of Maldives, The Republic of Seychelles and The Czech Republic are exempt from the requirement of obtaining tourist standard 6 months eVisa
- In the new application you need to include a .jpg image of your bio page in passport + .jpg image of a passport photo.

Making Memories.... love this pic.
Lovely family from Denmark who stayed with us for a month and half. Funny story, they checked out February 1, and then returned on the 8 for another 2 week stay. They were just not ready to leave BBH yet.

BBQ night at the Villa. There was jerk chicken made by our UK guests, Beef sliders made by our Danish guests, BBQ Pork made by our Swiss guests. We did a grilled Red Snapper fish, Asian style wings, devillled Octupus, and the rest of the sides. Super fun evening with cocktails & hanging out with everyone.
