Sigiriya is an ancient rock fortress located in the central Matale District of Sri Lanka. It is one of the country's most prominent heritage sites and is often referred to as the "Eighth Wonder of the World."

The fortress complex was built during the 5th century by King Kashyapa I as his royal residence. Sitting atop a massive 660 feet (200 meters) granite rock, Sigiriya stands out with its intricate architecture and breathtaking views.

One of the most remarkable features of Sigiriya is the frescoes, which depict several female figures known as the "Sigiriya maidens" or "cloud maidens." These are located on a sheltered rock face, and their vibrant colors have retained their brilliance over centuries.

Another iconic aspect of Sigiriya is the gigantic lion's paws carved at the entrance to the fortress. However, only the paws remain today, with the rest of the lion's structure believed to have been destroyed by ancient forces.

The complex also includes beautiful landscaped gardens, ponds, and water gardens, which showcase the advanced hydraulic systems of the time. The gardens are known for their symmetry, fountains, and canals, making them a remarkable feat of ancient engineering.

Sigiriya holds great historical and cultural significance for Sri Lanka. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and attracts thousands of visitors each year who come to explore its archaeological wonders and enjoy the panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.

Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) is a convention hall situated in Colombo 7. It was gifted by the People’s Republic of China in memory of the Prime Minister from 1956 to 1959, Solomon West Ridgeway Dias (S.W.R.D.) Bandaranaike. The hall was constructed by a joint workforce consisting of Sri Lankan and Chinese. A small memorial hall was built on these grounds in 1998, as a gift from China in memory of the first woman Prime Minister in the world and wife of the late S.W.R.D. Bandaranaike, Sirimavo Bandaranaike.

Sigiriya is one of Sri Lanka’s most popular tourist attractions – and with good reason. This ruined, fifth century city has some extraordinary features, including moat and wall fortifications, elaborately landscaped gardens, and a monastery. But it is the two-hundred metre high granite rock that stands out from these ruins that is undoubtedly the star attraction, with its exquisite frescoes and the remains of a royal palace on the summit.
