Surfing Tips for Beginners: Ride the Waves Like a Pro!

Ready to catch your first wave? Here are some quick tips to get you started:

1. Choose the Right Spot: Find a beginner-friendly beach with small, gentle waves. Avoid crowded or advanced surf spots.

2. Gear Up: A soft-top surfboard is perfect for beginners. Don’t forget a good wetsuit for comfort and protection.

3. Learn Surf Etiquette: Respect fellow surfers. Don’t drop in on someone else’s wave, and always be aware of your surroundings.

4. Master the Pop-Up: Practice your pop-up on land. It’s the move that gets you from lying on the board to standing up in one swift motion.

5. Stay Balanced: Keep your knees bent, and your weight centered. Look ahead, not down, to maintain balance.

6. Safety First: Always wear a leash, and know how to handle wipeouts. Remember, the ocean is powerful—respect it.

7. Have Fun: Surfing is about enjoying the ocean and the thrill of the ride. Don’t get discouraged, and keep practicing!

The beautiful village of Meemure at the mountain's peak

Places you can visit during your trip to Meemure:

🍃 Punchi Lokanthaya

🍃 Knuckles Mountain Range (Cobers Gap)
🍃 Weddilulu Cave

🍃 Alugallena
🍃 Seven Falls
🍃 Lakegala

🍃 Knuckles Waterfall (Meemure)
🍃 Suri Arana River Bank (Sali Kata)
🍃 Ravana Falls (Meemure)

You can witness many such beautiful spots while visiting Meemure. ❤️
Meemure is one of the most secluded villages in Sri Lanka. Surrounded by the Dumbara forest, one corner of the Meemure village reveals the Lakegala Mountain, the world's largest exposed monolithic rock. The elders of the village remember that Lakegala has stood as a guardian of the village from ancient times. Indeed, it has. Rising like a mighty warrior, Lakegala's towering presence evokes awe in all who see it. Additionally, the area is home to many beautiful, lesser-known waterfalls like Oyabokka Waterfall, which continue to add to the natural splendor that captivates visitors.

Located about 175 km from Colombo, Lakegala Mountain can be seen from within the Dumbara forest. The pyramid-shaped Lakegala, which borders Meemure on one side and Laggala on the other, sits between the Matale and Kandy districts. This massive rock, with a nearly 90-degree incline, is believed to have been King Ravana’s fortress in ancient times, a theory supported by numerous factors such as the protection offered by surrounding mountains and the difficulty of scaling it easily. From its summit, the entire surrounding region can be observed.

Today, the village still displays characteristics of an ancient settlement, with Lakegala standing tall in the background, steeped in the legends of Ravana. During the journey from Hunnasgiriya to Meemure, one can also see the main peaks of the Knuckles Mountain Range.

🍄 Meemure is a village with a population of around 400.

🍄 It is located near the border between the Kandy and Matale districts within the Knuckles Mountain Range.

🍄 Meemure is one of Sri Lanka's most remote villages, accessible via a 14 km (8.7 miles) journey from Loolwatte.

🍄 There is no cellular service in the village, but there is a CDMA phone service.

🍄 The village does not have postal delivery; instead, a villager travels daily to the nearest post office to collect and send mail.
