If you want to explore a magnificent nature beyond from the artificial world which we imagine dramatically. Such as dense trees and flowing streams over rugged rocks splitting water all over the wet land, then the best place to visit is SINHARAJA RAINFOREST. The rainforest is so refreshing, exotic and beautiful that you could just sit down under the shadow of trees and allow the magnificence of nature to wash over you.

Sinharaja Rain Forest Reserve is not only specified for its beauty, but the UNESCO has named it as a world heritage site due to this unspoiled lowland rainforest being the home to 830 of Sri lanka’s endemic species of flora and fauna.

Sinharaja is the country's last viable area of primary tropical rainforest. More than 60% of the trees are endemic and many of them are considered rare. 50% of Sri Lankan's endemics species of animals live here (especially butterflies, amphibians, birds, snakes and fish species). It is home to 95% of endemic birds of the island.

The hilly virgin rainforest, part of the Sri Lanka's lowland rain forests ecoregion, was saved from the worst of commercial logging by its inaccessibility, and was designated a World Biosphere Reserve in 1978 and a World Heritage Site in 1988.

Because of the dense vegetation, wildlife is not as easily seen as at dry-zone national parks such as Yala. There are about 3 elephants, and 15 or so leopards. The most common larger mammal is the endemic purple-faced langur.
Birds tend to move in mixed feeding flocks, invariably led by the fearless Sri Lanka crested drongo and the noisy orange-billed babbler. Of Sri Lanka's 26 endemic birds, the 20 rainforest species all occur here, including the elusive red-faced malkoha, green-billed coucal and Sri Lanka blue magpie.

Reptiles include the endemic green pit viper and hump-nosed vipers, and there are a large variety of amphibians, especially tree frogs. Invertebrates include the endemic Sri Lankan birdwing butterfly and leeches.

In short, it is a nature lover's paradise!

Sri Lanka ranks in the top two or three countries in the world to see blue, s***m, Humpback and Bryde’s whales.
There’s an annual migration of blue and s***m whales between the Bay of the Bengal and the Arabian Sea, via the coast of Sri Lanka. The migration is now hailed as one of the greatest cetacean migratory routes in the world.

The three main whale and dolphin watching areas in Sri Lanka are Mirissa in the south-west, Trincomalee in the north-east and Kalpitiya on the northwest coast. The most frequently targeted species of whale for whale watching in Sri Lanka is the blue whale, which can be observed off the coast of Mirissa between December and March, and off Trincomalee between March and July. Bryde’s whales and s***m whales are sometimes also opportunistically observed during trips that are focused on blue whales.
