Discover the Glory of the Seethawaka Kingdom

Hidden amidst Sri Lanka's lush greenery and meandering rivers lies the legendary Seethawaka Kingdom a testament to courage, resilience, and heritage. The name Seethawaka originates from fascinating legends. Some believe it derives from the cool, winding waters of the Seethawaka River, blending the Sinhala words “Seetha” (cool) and “Waka” (meandering). Others point to ancient Hindu influences, linking the name to the story of Princess Seetha, who, according to the Ramayana, was hidden here by King Ravana.

The Seethawaka Kingdom flourished under the rule of King Seethawaka Rajasingha (formerly Prince Tikiri Bandara). His reign marked an era of defiance against foreign invaders. After ascending to the throne in 1581 following the death of King Mayadunna, King Rajasingha unified neighboring regions, including the Udarata Kingdom and Vanni territories, under Seethawaka’s banner.
