Sri Lanka has been named among the top five destinations in Kuoni’s annual poll of where UK customers want to spend their holidays. Sri Lanka also retained the number one destination for weddings, according to the report.
The top five holiday destinations for 2012 are the Maldives, Thailand, Sri Lanka, The United Arab Emirates and the USA.
The 20-page report also tracks hot travel trends and the top destinations for weddings and honeymoons, for families, for solo travellers, for pampering spa holidays, for the most exciting adventures and authentic experiences as well as the best destinations for those that care about the planet.

Poson festival in Sri Lanka
Poson is one of the main Buddhist festivals in Sri Lanka which is only be second to the Wesak festival in terms of importance. Remarkable 600,000 Tourist
Sri Lanka Tourism achieves a remarkable 600,000 target of tourist arrivals.
Tourism officials headed by Sri Lanka Tourism Chairman Dr. Nalaka Godahewa welcomed the guest at the Bandaranaike International Airport on 14th December 2010, when he touched down at 3.40pm.
Commenting on his arrival, Dr. Godahewa said “This marks a significant moment in the history of tourism. Sri Lanka is now on the world map as a unique safe destination.

More zones of Sri Lanka's Yala National Park to be opened for tourists
Two more zones of the Yala National Park are to be opened to local and foreign tourists from January, says Sri Lanka Minister of Agrarian Services and Wildlife. The Minister said that the Zone 2 and 3 will be opened from January and the other zones are to be opened gradually.

GALLE FORT
In 1663, the Dutch built the 36 hectare Fort by the VOC (Dutch East India Company). They built a fortified wall, using solid granite, and built three bastions, known as "Sun", "Moon" and "Star".After the British took over the country from the Dutch in the year 1796, they preserved the Fort unchanged, and used it as the administrative centre of Galle. which is now a World Heritage Site.

European film festival 2010
The main festival in Colombo will be held from 5 to 14 November 2010 with screenings each day at 4.00 p.m. and 7.00 p.m. at three venues : the Namel Malini Punchi Theatre Borella, British Council and Goethe Institut. A total of 29 European films will be screened in Colombo.
