Sri Lanka Post - Our Heritage

The Post Office in Nuwara Eliya the Tudor-style two-stored red-brick building with a clock spire, was constructed in 1894 by the British. Sri Lanka Post has been in existence for more than 209 years, with a proud history and heritage.

It’s not fancy Restaurant – it’s something way better. It’s really delicious home cooking. Everything is ultimately tasty and fresh. Portions are big and enough even for big guys.

Prices are very attractive and the owners are very polite and talkative – even small talks are very pleasant.

This is the most tastiest curry in the whole area.

Don’t be surprised if the owner asks if you’ve had enough of the side dishes or if you want to add anything. Of course, all included in the price of the meal and the that’s more than friendly.

The most perfect hosts, immediately welcoming and genuinely wanting you to leave full & satisfied. They were so attentive to you without intruding, re-filling empty dishes inclusive of cost. It was just beautifully fresh food in a great, homely setting.

Sri Lanka remains one of the most important sources for fine gemstones. The mineral rich soils yields a never ending supply of high quality precious and semi-precious gem stones. The chronicle Mahavamsa records Ceylon was known as "Rathna deepa" in Sanskrit meaning The Island of Jewells.

Particularly known for the blue & pink sapphires, ruby, and yellow sapphire; alexandrite and cat's-eye chrysoberyl; and almandine and hessonite garnet. Most famous is the Blue Sapphire which is the National Gemstone, referred as 'Ceylon Sapphires'.
