In Sri Lanka, we are fortunate to have various kinds of fruit throughout the year; there are more than 80 varieties in our country. We can divide them according to their colour, shape, and fragrance. Some fruit cannot be found anywhere else in the world - only in Sri Lanka. Bananas, pineapples, papayas, sour sops, passion fruit can be enjoyed throughout the year. Rambutans, mangosteens, avocadoes, wood apples, wild olives, and rose apples are fruit that we have only for a season, while other fruit like mangoes and butter fruit we can delight in twice a year.
One amazing fact is some fruit like mangoes, bananas, avocadoes have many varieties. In Sri Lanka, we can find nineteen variations of mangoes that all go by different names. This is the same for other fruit mentioned.
If you want to experience the delicious taste of real natural fruit, Sri Lanka is the ideal country.

The Esala Perahera (the festival of the tooth) is the grand festival of Esala held in Sri Lanka.

It is very grand with elegant costumes. Happening in July or August in Kandy, it has become a unique symbol of Sri Lanka. It is a Buddhist festival consisting of dances and nicely decorated elephants.

There are fire-dances, whip-dances, Kandyan dances and various other cultural dances. The elephants are usually adorned with lavish garments.
