We love discovering mesmerizing sites that have been seemingly hiding in plain sight with no visitors at all. While cycling throughout the villages around Sigiriya, we took a beat to explore this wonderful temple complex which we had completely to ourselves. The cicadas in the canopies were almost deafening! ♡

National parks in Sri Lanka are as varied as the landscapes and vegetation the country has to offer. One of the most unique parks is Horton Plains in the central highlands of Sri Lanka. Walking through the plains, past montane cloud forests, ponds and waterfalls, grass lands dotted with bright red rhododendrons, sambar grazing peacefully, spotting endemic birds darting across, is an almost other worldly experience. We weren't lucky enough to spot a leopard (despite our best efforts) but we did have some lovely sightings from a pair of stripe necked mongoose, the endemic Sri Lankan white eye and even the common rough sided snake which is the only reptile species seen in the park. We were also blessed with wide open views from world's end.

There is something magical about watching the sunset, surrounded by wilderness at the end of a safari. On this day, it was just us watching the sky turn molten gold to the sound of birds and the breeze while elephants sauntered in the distance and no one else. That's the magic of visiting the lesser known national parks.

We have a unique advantage where we can help support and encourage local crafts and traditions through what we do. We work with cottage industries to encourage them to do what they do and to show them the value of it.

In doing so, we have forged some amazing bonds across the country.

We were sent these pictures by our friends who make curd in the south coast. "We thought you would like to see that the buffaloes are doing well" they said and we sure were.

In case you are tickled by the guys with the downward horns, the one with the legendary long downward horns is called Loku Puwalu (translated to Big banana) and the one with the smaller, face framing horn is Podi Puwalu (small bananas).
