1. Ella
Amidst of the never ending tea states and ever green forests and sleepy hill tops of country side of Sri Lanka, there is this Ella. A breath taking station which is a view that you wont forget for the rest of your life.
2. NuwaraEliya
NuwaraEliya, also called as Small England for its cool climate which cannot be felt in the other areas of the country is one of the top tourism attractions in Sri Lanka. Not only its climate but also in the earlier days it was having the colonial touch with golf course, country clubs and such colonial way of living. While some of those cultural aspects are still there, it mostly loved by people for the cascading waterfalls, sightseeing railway journey, big lakes and parks and also for the tree plantation.
3. Polonnaruwa
If you are interested in the history of a well-nourished country, Polonnaruwa is the place to sneak in. Once you enter the city you will be lost in hundreds of ancient ruins that would make you wonder how it was at those times in Sri Lanka. Ruins on statues, buildings, stupas and also still blue watered lakes are there to visit in Polonnaruwa. It is worth the watch city.
4. Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage
Elephants cannot be watched in all the countries. There are two types of elephants Asian and African and you will able to watch Asian Elephants in Sri Lanka. You might have seen elephants, but how many of you get to see them getting raised at one place. You will be surprised to see how those baby elephants getting fed and how they enjoy their evening bath at the river. Itβs a very rare opportunity that can be gained at Sri Lanka.
5. Dambulla Cave Temple
Well popular as dambuku gala and Dambuluwiharaya for its historical and religious dignity. There are nearly 150 buddha statues under that cave which symbolizes the respectfulness of a nation and how capable were the Sinhalese even in ancient times.
6. Adams Peak
Adamβs peak also known as sripadaya or the samanalakanda is rich in bio diversity which has spread over hundreds of acres. Hiking adamβs peak will of course be a thrilling experience where the path leads you through ever green forests and calm rivers. Those who hike prefer to start their journey at night because once they reach to the top , they can watch the spectacular view of morning sun rise.
7. Old Dutch Fort at Galle
This fort was built by Dutch in earlier days in the golden beach of Galle. Still it stands as a giant looking after the land from the never ending southern sea. The beach and the view from the fort is amazing just like any other beautiful beach in Sri Lanka, but the Fort itself gives the proud look to the scenery.
8. Sigiriya Rock Fortress
Sigiriya, also known as the 8th of wonder of the world is a world heritage site. Not only the rock itself but also the nature around it is also very appealing. Once you visit this place youβll be astonished by the art work with the rocks and how ancient Sinhalese could make water fountains from the rock beds. And the frescoes of ancient painting will be a subject youβll talk about once you enter this place. Donβt miss the view at the top which will be lovely with the howling wind.
9. Mirissa
Whale watching has become one of the top tourism attractions during the recent days.So if you plan on going whale watching Mirissa will be the ideal place for you. Because not only the whale watching, the calm and serene nature with attractive beaches you will feel like you have escaped fromthe all the trouble of your busy life.
10. Yala National Park
Among the national parks of Sri Lanka, Yala is on the top of tourism attractions. That is due to the variety of the animals in this park. And also safari trips can be easily arranged to take a tour around the park in order to watch these beautiful creatures in their natural habitat. Yala is mostly popular for the leopards. With lots of rare plants, then lagoons, muddy marshes and variety of environmental surrounding, safari in Yala would be a thrilling experience to your travel diary.
