Dec 2017 Review: “This place was, hands down, the best Air BnB place I've ever stayed in, having used Air Bnb for many years and being a super host myself. We stayed in a party of five- and spent much time lazing around the pool fantasising about joint investing in a place out in Unawatuna! Food was fantastic and the staff really did go above and beyond- they were so welcoming and so professional while still being warm and welcoming. The place is like the perfect boutique hotel. It is 5 min from the beach by tuktuk or 10 min from Galle Fort. We will definitely be back”!
Jan 2018 Review: We rented Moonwater for our two children, their spouses and our four granddaughters, aged 5 to 10. The ten of us had a most enjoyable Christmas there. The rooms were spacious and comfortable and the house had all the facilities we wanted. The staff were most welcoming and we were made to feel at home straight away. They provided an excellent introduction to Sri Lankan cuisine, with a wide variety of dishes and were very willing to adapt dishes to suit younger palates. The pool was well used, as was the outside dining table, and tuk-tuks summoned readily when ever we wanted to go to near-by beaches or into Galle. When it rained we were provided with towels to dry off and ate comfortably inside. Even a Christmas tree was put up for us. A big 'thank you' from two very contented grandparents!
Moonwater is a truly unique property that was an original village house renovated true to local design and is available to rent for holidays, weddings, retreats, corporate team away-days and workshops, sleeping a maximum of 10 guests.
Moonwater is all on one spacious and open plan level and also comprises of a dedicated, private double en-suite bedroom with a balcony that is situated on the first floor under the mango tree. The property has been upgraded and now includes full A/C throughout the house plus, we have installed a dedicated Yoga and Meditation Shala that really helps to sustain the peaceful, tranquil energy at the property. Moonwater has a private swimming pool with an en-suite al fresco dining area to take advantage of the balmy, tropical nights. Moonwater has been constructed in an ‘open’ style that highlights the natural beauty of Sri Lankan architecture and makes the best of the cool breezes that waft throughout the house. A variety of indoor seating areas welcome company, conversation and laughter. It is a solid beach house that flows from one room to the other offering both privacy and open spaces for entertaining. Our property is fully staffed with a genuinely helpful and trustworthy local Sri Lankan team who have worked with the owners of Moonwater for nearly 8 years. Dilusha and the Moonwater team take pride in the high level of housekeeping services and will do their best to look after you during your stay. An entire morning can be spent exploring the maze of narrow roadways lined with Dutch and British Colonial era buildings that are still in use, sturdy ramparts overlooking Galle's international cricket stadium, and scattering of shops, art galleries, museums, boutique hotels and cafes. Alternatively, why not take a boat ride on Koggala lake where rural life unfolds and along the way visit a village temple or a fragrant cinnamon estate. Snorkeling and Scuba diving is possible for all ages in Unawatuna Bay and there are also several surf points nearby for you to enjoy or you can spend your time in the colourful beachside village of Unawatuna sampling the cafes, restaurants and shops, sitting at the cafe tables as the water laps at your feet or just lie for hours on a variety of sun lounges. Wijaya and Jungle beaches offer quieter alternatives and come highly recommended.
