LESCOSAA: Protecting Creativity in Lesotho

The Lesotho Copyright Society of Authors and Artists (LESCOSAA) stands as a beacon of hope for creators in Lesotho, tirelessly working to protect and promote their intellectual property rights. Established under the Copyright Order of 1989, LESCOSAA ensures that authors, artists, and performers receive the recognition and royalties they deserve.

LESCOSAA safeguards the rights of authors and artists in Lesotho through copyright registration, legal support, and awareness campaigns. Collaborating with government bodies like the Ministry of Tourism, Sports, Arts and Culture for licensing and Lesotho Mounted Police Service to combat copyright infringement. They fight piracy and promote intellectual property rights. Through training sessions and awareness campaigns, they aim to strengthen enforcement and ensure compliance with copyright laws.

To register work, creators submit proof of originality to LESCOSAA, gaining protection under laws and international agreements. In cases of copyright infringement, LESCOSAA provides mediation and legal guidance.

Through public campaigns, workshops, and future plans to modernize laws, LESCOSAA ensures creators are empowered, fostering a thriving creative community in Lesotho. Creativity is protected, and possibilities grow.

LESCOSAA encourages club owners, bars, DJs, and other music users to secure public performance licenses. These licenses guarantee that artists receive fair compensation whenever their creations are used commercially, ensuring a thriving and sustainable creative industry.
