in the column - Ieva Grigienė.
A jeweller in whose hands metals, stones and organic materials become beautiful creations. In Ieva's collection you can see some of the most contrasting and unique looking pieces, including: earrings, rings, pendants, neck jewellery. 💎 These works have been well received and have already been exhibited in Poland, Israel, Bulgaria, Germany and of course Lithuania. Ieva, as you can understand from the sentences below, has had a creative streak since she was very young. Starting her academic journey as an artist in 2012 at the Art School in Vilnius, today she has already graduated with a Master's degree in Applied Arts from the Vilnius Academy of Arts. In addition to jewellery, Ieva's work also includes ceramics, which she does in her spare time. She is not only a unique artist, but also a great innovator and initiator of ideas in the UMI community. We hope that Ieva, who has been residing with us for several years now, will have even more amazing works in the future. ✨
in Ieva's statements:
"My plan for 2022 is to create a jewellery collection working with the materials closest to my heart - metal, stone and wood - with a launch in autumn. I also want to finally go bigger and leave a piece of art especially for Užupis."
"My first piece, the most memorable, was a small wooden man. My parents had received a thumb-sized wooden doll for their wedding, which, meticulously carved, seemed to me to be the pinnacle of craftsmanship. I decided to make one myself - at the age of six, during my lunchtime nap, I secretly picked up a stick and a knife and thought, I'm going to carve something like that. After I had a little fun with the stick, after I had managed to draw a few lines, I took it and realised that I... I can't! I remember that moment as a healthy frenzy, thinking, "Wait a minute, I'll understand how it's done here, I'll learn and I'll do even better."
"My most important work at the moment is a series of fifty-one stone rings I made a year ago. Although I've never been the most traditional jeweller, the discovery of stone has opened up an infinity of colours and shapes, another way of turning jewellery into a wearable work of art, a small sculpture that adapts to the human body. That's what I was doing, turning unfixed stones into unfixed jewellery."

Last three days to visit the group painting exhibition "HEDONIZMAS.LT"! GODÒ galerija is waiting for you until the 19th of March.
Pictured here is the 2022 work „Sausaininis arkliukas (šuoliuoja)" ("Little cookie horse (Jumping)) by Vydas Poškaus and a brief history of the work:
"The cookie was lying on a plate on the table. Something bit off its head (or maybe it broke off itself?) Then it started to jump. A drawing teacher once told me that you can't draw things bigger than they are. But maybe that's not true."

A resident who probably needs no introduction is Ieva Keliauskaitė-Mališauskė - founder of the sustainable fashion brand Mali.Keli. Her work is based on the concept of zero waste, there are no unsued pieces of fabric left while she creates ❤️ Ieva's work is unique in Lithuania and it has its own consumer niche. For example, Ieva's clothes have contributed to the image of artists such as Baltasis Kiras and Migloko. They are very colourful and radiate good energy, which is also very crucial in her work. She talks openly about mental health and its importance, so every colour or pattern carries a certain message. In addition to all this, Ieva also uses the rare technique of xerography, which allows for deep empathy and self-expression, and one of the most sustainable photographic techniques - cyanotype. With a keen awareness of social factors, she also actively contributes to projects that bridge the gap between minorities or enrich the daily lives of the less privileged. For example, workshops in the Jiezno refugee centre with the families staying there and the children of the local day-care centre. We are proud to have such enterprising and creative residents in residence here!✨
column - 3 statements by Ieva:
"My plan for 2022 is to find and maintain a balance between creative joy and financial stability, without sacrificing either for the other. The goal is huge and could probably be the goal of my entire professional life, but I'm ambitious, so let this be the goal for this year. 🙂 "
"My first piece - it's hard to name. The work that I'm professionally proud of and not ashamed to put in my portfolio happened in the first half of my third year - I made window shutter designs using the principle of circular economy. However, the work that gave me one of my first creative joys would probably be when I created a musical based on The Devil's Bride with a friend when I was in second year. We had recordings of the music, we took the class record player after school and choreographed it, we got all the classmates involved, who weren't very happy with it, and at the end of the year we presented it to the parents - there was a big crowd of squealing, blushing second graders. It's a shame because we don't have any records, but it's interesting that my friend became a modern dancer and choreographer and I went into costumes. It's amazing that the teachers gave me the freedom to do this, I think it's quite rare for students to create and organise a 'performance' all by themselves."
"My most important/favourite piece at the moment is probably the one I'm making at the moment. It's hard to say if it's my favourite, because I often have feelings of love and hate/love and resistance when I create. I am currently experimenting with a rare old cyanotype photographic technique with the aim of printing / "baking" my work on fabric and clothing."

features a trio of resident artists. Photographers Artūras Morozovas, Paulius Zavadskis and Tadas Kazakevičius.📸
Three different, but at the same time similar creators. It is a common practice that photographers are individuals, but in this case, Tadas, Paulius and Artūras are collaborating and sharing a studio in Užupis Art Incubator. This is where their creative processes are in a phase of discussion, which leads to great ideas. As a joint project, the photographers have already presented the exhibition "Sekma diena"🎞This is an exhibition of humanistic photography, where, as the authors themselves have said, the most important thing is not the pictures, but the process of taking them. As if photography is just an excuse to "get to know" a person's life, his or her ordinary day. These three photographers are such photographers, closely touching on humanistic themes, social aspects and the beauty of everyday life.
In our column, 3 statements given by the photographers:
"Our plan for 2022 is to print more photographic prints and find new forms for photography and also to ignite people's love for analogue photography. But not to forget to be with each other in the name of photographic fellowship."
"The first piece - it all started with the desire to print colour photographic prints using the RA4 manual process and although there is now only one other among the tens or hundreds of black and white photographic prints in each of our collections, this shot was the first."
"The most important work at the moment, the form that was born in the UMI premises of capturing parishioners after Mass and then giving them the silver prints made in the studio, has become something that unites us all, some of us permanently, some of us episodically. "Sekma diena" seems to have become our common favourite, although we probably all have others of our own."
_____________________________________________________

The seventh resident - Artwork Milena
Milena is a graphic artist, often identified by the colour blue, not limited to the standard paper form, constantly looking for new graphic forms and design objects. Milena has created more than 200 book covers. 💙 In her work, the sweet spot is between creativity and logic, inspiration and rationality, art and design. She is fascinated by the moment of surprise. "In printmaking, you never know what the final result will look like", says Milena. "Graphics would be monochrome if it wasn't for the colour blue - it's a kind of identification of the work. Blue inspires me, sometimes it disappears in the creative process, but the original energy remains." Milena's work is multi-layered, combining ancient techniques with contemporary ones. The principle of collage allows for a playful, unpredictable aspect. The aim is to give the viewer a feeling of lightness and to make the painting pleasant to look at. One wants to be charged with good energy. ✨
In the column, three of Milena's statements:
"My plan for 2022 is to look for innovation both in style and in the dissemination of artistic activity. I want to introduce something completely new to my work than what came before - to surprise myself."
"My first work. Life - son Ta**us. Childhood - linear abstractions. Free, no longer academic - a cycle of cyanotype intentions."
"At the moment my most important project is an experiment in everyday drawing, preparing for competitions, searching for collaboration."
_______________________________________________________________

Simona resides at Užupio str. 2A, where, in her studio, she collects stones, or rather, various minerals. This is not just a collection, but also an integral part of her work. Simona is an interdisciplinary artist. She collects pigments from different materials, which then become paints, which then become works of art. This technique can even be used to create a colour palette of Lithuanian rocks, which, as Simona has already shown, is truly vibrant. Her creative process consists of several stages and can vary seasonally. In the warmer months of the year, when conditions are more favourable, the materials are gathered, winter is the perfect time to extract the pigments, and in the spring the art is born.🟤🟠🟢
This is the artist with a unique creative process who is in residence at Užupis Art Incubator.
column 3 statements by Simona:
My plan for 2022 is a solo exhibition in autumn.
My first piece - as a child I spent a lot of time learning origami. I carefully folded every corner of the thin paper, eventually moving on to more complex shapes.
My most important work at the moment is that I have recently finished archiving the pigments and materials I collected in Malta and am now preparing them for a new series of paintings.

Meet Morta Jonynaitė - resident of Užupis Art Incubator ⭐️
Her works are a bit different from the usual paintings, they are dominated by textiles, and it is no coincidence, because she graduated in textiles from the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam 🧶Morta's creative projects are created in a complex way, as if they are made of several stories, which are based on theoretical and material analysis. She focuses on things that are less visible and understood, in order to create new narratives that go beyond the already existing perception of reality. Thus, Jonynaitė focuses on crafts and textiles, and with this in mind, she creates artworks, each of which has both a complex and a holistic meaning.
in 3 statements, concluded by Martha:
"My plan for 2022 is to learn how to plan my time in a way that balances work and creativity. I have long projects coming up after which I will prepare for an exhibition. I will present a work about shame and jealousy, maybe I will be able to curb these states..."
"My first work is a painting of a Japanese woman that I did when I was a child in an art class. This work went into the collections and never came back, maybe because I didn't see it again and it stuck with me."
"The most important work at the moment is ,,Innocence Becomes Sharks". It's about the space between sea and shore, the search for peace in the face of catastrophe. I realised the installation was working when a woman asked if she could breastfeed her baby inside and sat down next to ,,Seal Skeleton".
