Ait Ben Haddou is a fortified city or Ksar along the former caravan route between the Sahara and Marrakech. It was built by the Berbers in the 14th century. It is situated in the sous mass Draa on a hill along the Ounila river and is known for its kasbah. Most of its people have moved to a village on the other side of the river but there are a small number of families who still live there.
