About MCCE
MCCE has extensive experience adapting civic education curricular programs for the Moroccan context, as well as significant teacher training capacity, and an established record of securing external funding. Over the past 10 years, MCCE has worked in over 700 schools with over 80,000 students and more than 3,500 teachers. MCCE also has excellent relations with US, Canadian, European and
Moroccan government authorities with whom it regularly serves as an advisor on civic education matters. Civic education programs offered by MCCE include: Foundations for Democracy for primary school students and Project Citizen for middle school students. The civic education programs that are promoted by MCCE have also been adapted for use by the NGO community in Morocco so out-of-school youth also have access to civic education programming. MCCE has active civic education programs in 10 of Morocco’s 16 regions. The MCCE works closely with governmental and non-governmental organizations across Morocco and has the steadfast support of the Higher Council for Education, the education advisory authority of HM Mohamed VI, King of Morocco, and is linked to the Ministry of Education, with whom a partnership agreement was signed in 2008. MCCE has significant leadership and staff development potential, as well as on-the-ground experience with a demonstrated capacity to conduct conferences, implement training workshops, and host international events as well as smaller delegations, including visiting teams of US congressional staffers, civic education experts, and exchange groups of teachers and administrators from the MENA region, Europe, the U.S. MCCE’s activities are regularly featured in local, national and international media including major Arabic and French newspapers, television programming, and radio broadcasts. The Civic Education Partnership Initiative (CEPI), a three-year project with Bowling Green State University and then Maryville University in St. Louis funded by Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI) and USAID through HED, has designed a stand-alone civic education curriculum for 9th grade students and for teacher educators which has been piloted and implemented in six provinces. MCCE has also actively worked on a two-year project funded by the United Nations Democracy Fund (UNDEF) that supports the engagement of civil society in Morocco’s elections through the use of a thematic Project Citizen curriculum. MCCE remains actively involved in the Civitas International Network partnership that includes South Africa, Poland, Ukraine and four US States (Kentucky, Alabama, Missouri, and Ohio) focused on sharing curricular innovations across cultures.
