Innayer or Yennayer is the beginning of the new year. It means « First Moon » of the year in Tamazigh, our North African Native Language.

In the Amazigh , we have a Moon Calendar coordinated with the 4 seasons. Innayer is the occasion to ask the Divine to offer us a year of abundance and good harvest.

The are from January 12 to January 14. And we eat vegetables couscous, Tagoula (like a corn polenta) and a lot of candies 🍬

THE KSAR OF AIT BENHADDOU

The Ksar (fortified village) of Aït Benhaddou comprises a group of earthen buildings surrounded by high walls. The houses crowd together within the defensive walls, which are reinforced by corner towers.

Aït Ben Haddou is a UNESCO world heritage site located along the former caravan route between the Sahara and Marrakesh and is a striking example of the architecture of southern Morocco.

People often refer to nearby Ouarzazate as the “Hollywood of Morocco.” It has been used a filming location for many films including Lawrence of Arabia (1962), The Jewel of the Nile (1985), The Mummy (1999) and Gladiator (2000), as well as Game of Thrones.

Volubilis, a Berber-Roman city, served as the capital of the Kingdom of Mauretania. The city’s ruins endured centuries in relative preservation until an earthquake in the mid-18th century caused substantial damage, followed by looting by Moroccan rulers who sought its stone for constructing Meknes.
