Surely one of the greatest challenges of the newly independent Morocco: the reconstruction of a city completely destroyed by an earthquake in February 1960. The will and determination of a young King Hassan II, inducted since only a year, would realize the wish and hope of an entire people by Agadir reborn from its ashes.
Now it is a new and modern city by its hotel facilities, its broad avenues, flower gardens, its magnificent harbor and its extraordinary airport but also and above all, its splendid bay, which stretches over six km, between the wind fragrant pine trees, eucalyptus and tamarisk. The resort of Agadir reputation is well established and is known throughout the world.
From a cliff road in the hillside, the old Kasbah of the XVIth century dominates the extent azure of the ocean, the green valleys of the Great Souss and the majestic mountains of the Anti Atlas. Among the finest contemporary achievements include the post office, a building combining concrete and cedar wood, the court, in the very elegant style, the primary school of the Avenue des Forces-Army-Royal and the fire station with its imposing Training Tower. THE MUSEUM. It was created in 1992 inside the municipal theater. Dedicated to the popular arts and traditions of the valley and the Sub Saharan regions, it presents a part of the collection of the house Tiskiwin in Marrakech: costumes, jewelry, carpets, furniture, musical instruments and tools gathered by the historian art of Dutch origin, Bert Flint, installed in Morocco since 1957.
