6 DAYS RIF POTTERY TOUR FROM FES TO AINBOUCHRIK all inclusive
OVERVIEW
Experience the Rif pottery experience on a 4 days Rif mountains tour from Fes to Ainbouchrik . On this guided tour through Rif region, discover one the most authentic hand build pottery methods that dates back to the pre Islamic era notably to cartagians and phonecians and keeps preserved from one generation to another by practice .
On the first day, leave Fes driving to Ainbouchrik via the pre Rif Mountains and along the Alwahda Dam to spend overnight at Dar lala Zhour.
On the second day, visit a local pottery family in Ainbouchrik with whom you will stay the rest of your trip to learn all the steps and techniques of making pottery till you become able to make your own pieces at the end of this unique pottery hands on experience .On this day , you get yourself ready to accompany your potter or her daughter to collect the fine sands called asgui from somewhere near the village that will be mixed up with a typical clay called Aduka and water and lay getting wet all the night along before becoming ready for modeling.
On the third day, join your Potter at her workshop outside of the house to learn how to prepare the clay dough in order to start modeling your pieces under the supervision of your instructor by using simple tools like the flat basic rocky disk and smooth rock .The pieces are then placed outside to dry to prepare them for the next step: polishing. You will mainly use three techniques: coiling, modelling and the "plates" technique.
On the fourth day, your Potter will teach you how to polish the pieces by using a pebble, adelak, or any other hard and smooth object before cooking because the clay is very porous as well as you will learn how to decorate them by using natural colors come out from red and white clay , and the iron oxide before being placed in open oven
On the fifth day , you will place the made peices in a circle way in an open fire and get them covered with dried disc, luguide, made from a mixture of straw and manu for being cooked all the night allong in a primitive way . This is the most highlighted and fascinating stage for making the pottery where the four main elements of life :air, water,earth and fire are combined to create the beautiful masterpieces of the pottery .The potter must remain diligent throughout the combustion, paying close attention to the air currents which influence the fire’s blaze. The best results are achieved when the temperature does not exceed 1000 degrees celsius. .
On the sixth day you will remove the pieces from the fire after a dozen hours of cooking at low temperature and let them cool down before you carry them with you as one of the best memorable pottery souvenir and experience you ever have had with us .
