What is the distance between foum Zguid and erg chegaga desert ?
What is the distance from foum zguid to lake iriki
Foum Zguid is considered as the gate to desert since it is the last city to the desert from both ways either you are coming from Marrakech, Ouarzazate,taznakht, Agadir, or from tata it is the last city to the desert. The question that alot of people have all the time is how many kilometers from foum zguid to erg chegaga and lake iriki by car and by feet. And how many kilometers from foum zguid to mahamid Elghizlane going through lake iriki and erg chegaga, firstly it is worth mentioning that there is quit few pists to take , the closest one is passing through the edge of Joel bani all the time , and it is used only when it is raining in the desert since it is very stony so you will not stuck, but it is not the perfect one in normal days since it is very rocky. There the second one which is starting from south of foum zguid passing through the tajine mountains and then crossing lake iriki to arrive to erg chegaga dunes. From foum zguid to lake iriki it is 67 kilometers of pist divided as Mountains, hamadas and flat reg in the last kilometers, from foum zguid to erg chegaga it is around 90 kilometers including around 20 kilometers of dunes.
How many hours to arrive in lake iriki and erg chegaga
Depend if you are hiking from foum zguid or if you are traveling with your 4×4 car , so for the car it will take around 1:30 to lake iriki from foum zguid, and around 3 hours to reach erg chegaga from foum zguid. If you are hiking you can take the edge of the mountains because there where you will find wells and shade all the time. If you go more south there is not much opportunity of water, you will find the wells all the time inside dry rivers basically with little desert oasis. You will find also nomads tents in the way in case of emergency and illness, they are very friendly and hospitable, they will give you food and water and they can even offer you a place to sleep with them, we advice you to pass anight with Moroccan nomad family to have a fully desert experience, and to see how they live .

I wake up early in the morning before sunrise, the desert is just starting to wake up. The bird of peace and love is the first bird to wake up, besides I miss its wisdom. he was the only creator in the world with whom I find my rest. he understands me without words just through eye contact, he understands me and I understand him. I have water everywhere in the desert, it's not much but I know carefully where the wheels are. I have enough food once I have flora, fire and you. I never forget when my father, in his last moments of his life, when he used to say goodbye to me forever, told me that life is very simple more than you can imagine and in at the same time it's more difficult than you can imagine, so it depended, you know. I won't clarify anymore but he refuses to tell me that when you are in an older age, you will remember me but sorry, it will be late if you made the wrong choice. Thank you dear grandfather, you were always right. whatever happens in your life, remember that life is simple, don't complicate it.

New expedition take place today meeting point Marrakech after welcoming dinner and explanations of all the security rules and the expedition in general, tomorrow we will take the bus south crossing the atlass mountains to reach foum Zguid the gate to the sahara where we will meet our camel team and camp.
