Le Sahara se trouve à est une distance considérable de Marrakech et de Fès. La plupart des tours du Sahara et du Desert vous mènera vers les dunes de Merzouga (Erg Chebbi) et Dunes de Chegaga (Vallée du Draa).

Merzouga est décrite comme une zone d'oasis. Ceci est l'une des rares zone dans le désert où on peut trouvée l'eau par des puits-ce qui en fait un choix évident pour un peuplement.
