Often called the Renegade gate, Bab El-Mansour or even Bab Mansour, the Mansour El-Aleuj gate is the most important historic gate in the city of Meknes. It is located opposite Lahdim Square, the most famous public square in Meknes, which was built in 1672 by Sultan Moulay Ismael. This famous gate was completed in 1732 by Moulay Abdallah, son of Sultan Moulay Ismael. It marks the main entrance to the Imperial Palace. The gate was built by a Christian who converted to Islam, hence its name, the gate of Mansour, the renegade. The marble columns that adorn the projecting side bastions come from the ruins of the city of Volubilis. The city of Volubilis is the vestige of a Roman city built on the former site of a Punico-Berber city which was the capital of the kingdom of Mauréranie, located in the plain of Saïss on the banks of the wadi Rhoumane, river from the suburb of Meknes. Since 1914, Bab Mansour has been part of the protected cultural and historical heritage of Meknes.

Guelmim (ⴰⴳⵯⵍⵎⵉⵎ) is a city in southern Morocco, often called Gateway to the Desert. It is the capital of the Guelmim-Oued Noun region which includes the south of the Souss-Massa region and the northeastern corner of Moroccan Sahara.
