The M’Goun Mountain is a part of the High Atlas range, and rises in the heart of the Souss-Massa-Draa province. East of Marrakech and the Toubkal National Park, the M’Goun rises up to 4068 m in altitude. Get off the beaten track and cross this stunning region from north to south, to come face to face with the Berber tribes that live here. The preserved charm of its little villages and the splendours of its great mountain spaces are sure to leave unforgettable memories in their wake.

The variety of natural landscapes here is exceptional, and they alternate between jagged mountain crests, snow-capped peaks, plains and plateaus and gorges and valleys. This quality makes the region perfect for not only trekking and hiking, but skiing as well!

The mountain is about 250 kilometres east of Marrakech and 100 kilometres north of Ouarzazate. From Marrakech take the road until Azilal (170km), then head towards Tamemout to reach Agouti. This is then an ideal base camp for lovely hikes throughout the M’Goun region.

HIKES IN THE REGION AROUND M'GOUN

Starting at Agouti, this excursion starts with six hours of walking toward Jebel Tarkeddid, passing through the little parched villages of Rouguelt and d'Ifri N'Ait Kherfella. Once you’ve arrived at 2600m in altitude, you’ll be able to spend the night in a bivouac near the sheep pastures. The next day you’ll tackle the climb to the Tarkeddid mountain pass (3400m). From up here, admire the beautiful panoramic view over the Igoudamene mountain chain. You’ll then climb back down towards the Tarkeddid plateau: after 5h30min of walking, you can rest before finally climbing M’Goun.

CLIMBING M'GOUN

After 5 hours of climbing up foothills, you’ll get to the peak, the region’s culminating point. From here, you’ll have an extended view over the High Atlas and the Saharan Plains. Next, descend in the direction of the high valleys of Oulilimt. After eight to nine hours of walking, you’ll reach the Oulilimt springs, a magnificent site where you can stay for the night under a bivouac at 2550 metres in altitude. In the morning head towards Tagreft, in the high M’Goun Valley. After following the rapids for a while, you’ll reach Tarzout, at the foot of the walls of the Jebel Wawgoulzat: this place is a perfect spot to begin an exploration of the M’Goun Gorges. In the heart of the low valley, you will discover Aguerzak and Boutaghar, and the doorstep of the Moroccan Sahara. The landscape changes as you walk and pe*****te this world of orchards, palm groves and kasbahs...

AROUND M'GOUN

M’Goun’s low valley is an interesting departure point for discovering the great Moroccan South. Passing by Ifri, Ameskar Tatani, Ameskar Fougani, and Alemdoune Hdida, you pe*****te into the valley of roses. Across deep canyons at the feet of majestic kasbahs, the walk is absolutely magnificent. In the beginning of May, all the colours and perfumes of the blossoming roses fill the valley.

Une randonnée à vallée des Aït Bougmez, au coeur du Haut Atlas central, à la rencontre des habitants et de la tradition berbère.

La vallée des Aït Bougmez nous ouvre ses portes… Considérée comme la plus mythique des vallées du Haut Atlas, elle est baptisée « Vallée Heureuse » par ses habitants. C’est l’une des plus spectaculaires vallées du Haut Atlas avec sa configuration unique et ses nombreux villages à l’architecture en pisé. Accessible à toute personne en bonne santé, le séjour nous propulse dans le temps et nous fait découvrir les traditions, la culture et le mode de vie des berbères du Haut Atlas qui se dissimulent dans ces vallées reculées… Rencontres uniques et riches en émotions, paysages insolites où l’ombre des noyers et peupliers abritent petits ruisseaux et jardins… où cet écrin de verdure contraste avec l’aridité des montagnes environnantes… Seule la marche favorise cette approche sereine et tranquille… Une semaine d'immersion dans le monde berbère, où les traditions se perpétuent depuis la nuit des temps, à la découverte des villages et de leurs habitants à l'hospitalité légendaire, dans des paysages grandioses si caractéristiques du Haut Atlas.

Randonnée Taghia " Passage Berbère.

Au cœur d’une des régions les plus isolées de l’Atlas, la vallée de Zouîat Ahanesal est la porte d’entrée du cirque de Taghia. Ce petit village berbère accessible uniquement à pied est le camp de base idéal pour des escalades sauvages sur un calcaire étonnant et d’excellente qualité.
Taghia est parmi les meilleurs sites d’escalade au monde. A 3 heures de marche de Zaouiat Ahansal, un village isolé dans les montagnes du Haut Atlas à 1700 m, nous retrouvons à ce tout petit bout de terre le rythme d’une vie authentique. La nature vierge, les petits terrains de blé, les maisons en pisé, les berbères avec leur hospitalité et chaleur, la joie de grimper des belles parois,
