You can enter the old town of Kotor through three gates. The main gate, which we have written about before, is certainly the most famous.
However, the other two gates are no less significant. They date from different times and are located on opposite sides. One is on the north side of the city, the other on the south side, so they are called the North and South Gate respectively
Right next to the North Gate is the Church of St. Mary from the 13th century, and we will write about it in more detail in one of the next posts.

The town on the rocky peninsula Sveti Stefan was first mentioned in the 15th century
The small town, otherwise the former center of the Paštrovići tribe, was built from the loot taken from the Ottoman ships preparing to attack Kotor
There are three churches on the peninsula, the oldest of which is dedicated to Saint Stephen
The island is connected to the mainland by a sandbank created by the action of sea waves and the deposition of sand
Now the peninsula is a town-hotel, until a few years ago it was owned by the luxury hotel chain

Did you know that there are 6️⃣ islands in the Bay of Kotor❓

Although they are less well-known than Our Lady of the Rock and St. George, the 3️⃣ islands in front of Tivat are no less beautiful
Our guests from 🇩🇪 went to a party at , and after that, we took them on a tour of the Island of Flowers, Saint Mark, and Our Lady of Mercy. It was a casual panoramic sightseeing, and a cruise on the Tivat Bay
After that, we enjoyed the sunset for an hour and a half. 🌅

Did you know that the ramparts of Kotor are about 4.5km long, in some places 20m high, and their thickness ranges from 2 to 15m❓

The ramparts of Kotor were raised gradually from the 9th to 18th century, in correspondence with the expansion of the town
The highest point of the walls is the St. John (Sveti Ivan) fortress, which is located at 260m above sea level, from where there is a wonderful view of the lower part of the city and the very end of the Bay of Kotor
The fortress can be reached from two entrances. One is near the Church of St. Mary Collegiate, and the other is near The Square of Salad
Our dear guests from the 🇳🇱 and climbed the fortress 5 years ago 👈 but this time we sat down for lunch at the nice local restaurant where we enjoyed traditional coastal cuisine, as you can see

The coastal area traditionally represents Mediterranean cuisine, with seafood being a typical dish. Unlike its heartland, the traditional dishes of Montenegro's coast are fish, octopuses, different types of shells, and other seafood. Of course, such dishes are always accompanied by good white wine 🍾
For those who like to prepare at home, purchasing the supplies from a local market and cooking it yourself can be a special experience in and of itself. Finding yourself in the coastal regions of Montenegro, one can create culinary magic with access to such fresh products that you're sure to remember

The wine tasting tour was actually a half-day excursion around the Bay of Kotor
First, we visited the old town of Kotor, then the baroque town of Perast, and then we headed to Herceg Novi, where we stopped for a glass of local wine at Savina Winery
The story about the winery and the tasting lasted about an hour. We started with the history of the winery, we looked at the cellars, and heard how the wine is made and where it is stored. After that, we toured the vineyard. When we finished the tour, a mezze platter was waiting for us at the table and the young ladies poured us 3 different types of wine. Although the tastes are not discussed, the guests liked the Rose-Grenache wine the most
After the tasting and rest, we went for a short walk through Porto Montenegro, and then we returned our dear guests from Great Britain to the hotel

According to speleologists, there are 10,000 caves in 🇲🇪. One of the most attractive is certainly the Lipska Cave near Cetinje. It is easily reached from the direction of Podgorica, and also from Budva and Kotor via Cetinje, from which it is some 30-40 km away
We started from Kotor, through Njegusi village and National Park Lovcen to Old Royal capital Cetinje, which we visited along the way. At the parking lot above the cave, the train that takes us to the entrance was waiting for us
There we were met by friendly guides who guided us and told us the most interesting stories about the discovery of the cave, the structure, the ornaments found in it, as well as the experiences of speleologists and researchers who are still exploring this wonder of nature
After the tour, we took the train back to the parking lot from where we headed further to Rijeka Crnojevica and Lake Skadar.

A turquoise part of the Blue Cave in 🇲🇪. It is a place where Poseidon 🔱 used to throw the parties 🎇
You can only get to it by sea. There are many types of vessels you can arrive with, but the best one (of course) is a speedboat that we usually use on our tours.

Kotor-Our Lady of the Rock-Perast-Kotor Old Town was our itinerary today. We embarked on a in Kotor and cruised the bay to the island.

There we saw, heard, and felt the history and culture of an island on which a church was built in the 1️⃣5️⃣th century.

Next to the church is a museum with a collection of over 2,000 silver votive tablets left by sailors, fishermen, locals as well as guests who felt the need to thank the Mother of God for saving them from shipwrecks, accidents, and diseases.

However, in the museum you can see various other objects from different historical periods in this part of today's Montenegro, but also hear many legends that are an integral part of this perhaps one of the most famous places in Montenegro.

A cheerful group from 🇬🇧 went on the trip, and we are immensely grateful to them.

Behind us is the baroque town of Perast, through which we took a short walk, and from where we returned back to Kotor.

The old town of Kotor is a story unto itself, and we will present that in one of the following posts.

A few days ago we had a chance to visit restaurant at Karuc in Lake Skadar National Park. One out of 5 National Parks in Montenegro.

We rode the lake in a boat waiting for us in Virpazar (The restaurant can also be reached from the mainland. It is located 25 km from Podgorica and the same distance from Cetinje).

The ride was refreshing, the light wind chilled us all the way, and the enjoyment was complemented by the beautiful scenery and the observation of the rich flora and fauna on the lake.

Our bathing destination and lunch break were where one can try fresh local food specialties such as carp, common bleak, and eel.

Above the restaurant are apartments whose style fits into the lake ambiance, so the guest can have a whole atmosphere as we had.

National park Lake Skadar. The 🇲🇪 part of the lake and its surrounding has been designated as a national park 1️⃣9️⃣8️⃣3️⃣
The lake is located in the southeast of Montenegro. It is named after the city of Shkoder in northern 🇦🇱.
Lake Skadar is the largest lake in the Balkan Peninsula and is a cryptodepression ☝️
Having 2️⃣7️⃣0️⃣ bird species makes it one of the largest 🐦 reserves in Europe. Its trademark is a rare curly pelican (Pelecanus crispus) which you can see in the 4th photo
Possible tourist content on the lake are activities such as 🛶, 🏄, 🛥️ cruising, hiking, 🐦 watching, 🚴 tours and panoramic 🚁 flight
We had a boat tour with a group of tourists from 🇵🇱 after that we tried delicious carp directly from the lake and a fish soup in lovely restaurant

The 2nd highest (55 m) and one of the most handsome bell towers on the East Adriatic coast from the Baroque, rising by the church of Saint Nicholas in Perast 🥈
The 💒 of Saint Nicholas is situated in the central part of the town
Next to the door, there is a built-in tablet commemorating the 1654 victory of the local folks of Perast over the Ottomans

Over 2️⃣0️⃣0️⃣0️⃣ years old The Old Olive Tree in Bar is considered one of the oldest olive trees in the 🌍 and the oldest in Europe ☝️
This natural monument is older than any other written monument in the city of Bar ☝️
This "Old Lady" remembers much more than the history of 🇲🇪, many downturns and memories, many agreements, reconciliations and healings ⚕️

Too much beauty in one picture! A bridal journey ended in Kotor where we had a pleasure to meet friends from 🇹🇷
We stand on the gallery of the Roman Catholic St. Triphon's Cathedral in Kotor (1166) that interconnects two bell towers that dates from the 17th century
A lot of history has been told of the cathedral and the town itself and remains to be told about the other places in Montenegro 🇲🇪
