Welcome to Mawlamyaing

Full Day Sightseeing (In the city of Mawlamyaing)

Morning sightseeing: After your breakfast, visit the lower and upper markets to see many goods from the border trade with Thailand. Local products include vegetables and a few handicrafts, as well as exotic fruits such as the pomelo, duriam and rambutan for which Mon State is especially famous.

After that, proceed to the hills behind the city to see many ancient and famous pagodas along the ridge. The views from here are very photogenic. Among the must-sees are Kyaiktalan pagoda, Mahamuni, where there is a copy of the Mahamuni Buddha Image in Mandalay, U Zina pagada, U Khanthi pagoda and Queen Sein Tone monastery. This latter was built in colonial times after the last kingdom of Mandalay was conquered. and the Queen retired there.
After that, take lunch at a reliable restaurant Then take a 10-minute boat crossing to the Head Washing Island (Shampoo Island) near the bridge. There is a Buddhist meditation centre near Sandawshin pagoda, a whitewashed and silver pagoda enshrining hair relics of the Buddha. The island's name originates in a royal hair-washing ceremony practised during the 19th century during the April water festival. Before 5:00 pm, return to the viewpoint on the hill behind Mawlamyaing City especially to await a panoramic view of sunset over the city and ocean.

Out of the city (Full Day Trip)
Outline:

This trip starts early after your breakfast. Visit the Sitting Buddha Image, built by Queen Shin Saw Pu in 1455 in the late Mon regional architectural style. Proceed to the world's largest reclining Buddha Image. After that, see traditional cotton weaving in Mudon. Take lunch there with jungle food if you wish. After lunch, proceed to Thanbyuzayat and see the terminus of the Second World War death railway line (Myanmar to Thailand) and war cemetery. After sightseeing in Thanbyuzayat, visit the pagoda which is said to have floated over the Andaman Sea from Sri Lanka in 235 AD. On the way back, relax at Setse Beach. Look in on the International Meditation Centre for information before the 15 kilometer return to your hotel or guest house. Please note that this is a trip for the whole day.

One day trip to the Ogre Island(Bilu Kyun)

Brief overview of the Island

The population of the island is about 200,000. Mon people constitute the majority and growing rice is their main occupation. In the past, there were 64 villages which have now risen to 78. Many handicraft industries are thriving in this region, and traditional culture is still very much alive.

Apart from the unspoiled scenery, there are many things to see in the villages such as handmade walking sticks with handles like a bird's head, rubber bands and other products which originate here before being exported to Thailand. To***co pipes and ballpoint pens made of wood or bamboo are a useful novelty. Families can arrange lunch if given a day's notice

One and half day Trip to the Golden Rock
Kyaikhtiyo Pagoda (The golden rock)

The golden rock, it’s one of famous tourist sites in Myanmar. It’s located in the small town called Kyaikhto, in the Mon State. This destination is 160km away from Yangon and about 140km from Mawlamyaing. The pagoda is 1100km above sea-level. It is a 11 kilometer uphill climb for the hikers from Kinpun base camp. There is also a steep winding road for 4-wheel drive cars from the base to the nearest point of the pagodas. The pagoda is also known as "the golden rock". The meaning of Kyaik Hti Yo;According to Mon tradition, the name is a corruption of Kyaiki-thi-yo being derived as follows. In Mon language the word "Kyaik" means " pagoda" and " yo" " to carry on the hermits head", in Pali the word" ithi" means a hermit and therefore the name means " the pagoda carried on the hermit's head.
