The Taunggyi Balloon Festival (Tazaungdaing Festival) is held annually each year in the town of Taunggyi, which is set on a picturesque ridge at the head of the Inle Lake.
This celebration, the second festival of Lights. Is held after Buddhists Lent, and marking the end of the rainy season.
The locals pay homage at the Sulamani Temple, by releasing balloons to the heavens.
The celebrations start in the morning and go on late into the night.
During the day, it is mainly smaller balloons that are released. But come evening time, larger balloons up to 6 meters are released, with a 3 โ€“ 5 meter tail & fireworks attached.
The balloons are decorated on the outside, and have lanterns attached to create an even more spectacular sight.
Being a festival that is tied to the Lunar calendar, the dates change each year.
This year it is held between the 28th October and the 3rd November.
This national holiday in Myanmar is usually attended by over 20,000 local people.

If you would like to attend some, or all of the Festival in 2018. (16th to the 22nd November)
As part of your holiday/trip/tour, please book early ! Using the contact details at the top of our page. Thank you
