Few travel experiences compete with flying over Bagan in a hot air balloon. With over 2,200 temples and pagodas, there is no better way to take in the incredible history spread across the plains of Bagan.

Although balloons are relatively high up, the sunrise combined with the endless views of temples, grasslands, and other hot air balloons littering the sky is one of the most incredible sights.

The roughly one hour flight will be enjoyed by those who are looking to see a bigger picture of the vastness of the plains of Bagan.

Flights generally take place between October and March, however they can be cancelled at times for safety reasons if there’s too much wind or rain.

In our opinion its definitely worth paying for this optional extra tour! Bucket list material for certain! 📷🎈💛

PINDAYA CAVE 🇲🇲 MYANMAR (BURMA)
The Pindaya cave set in a limestone hill is an important pilgrimage site for Burmese Buddhists. Containing over 8,000+ depictions of the Buddha dating back as far as 1750.

The Pindaya Caves located next to the town of Pindaya, Shan State, Burma (Myanmar) are a Buddhist pilgrimage site and a tourist attraction located on a limestone ridge in the Myelat region. The area is part of the ancestral homeland of the Danu people. There are three caves on the ridge which runs north-south, but only the southern cave can be entered and explored. It is not known whether the other two pe*****te for any extended distance into the hillside. Scholars have been pushing for the site's inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The southernmost Pindaya cave can be entered and extends for about 490 feet along a well-worn path. It is known for its interior which contains over 8,000 images of Buddha. Some of the older statues and images in the cave have inscriptions dating to the late 18th century, or early Konbaung period, and the earliest one dates from 1773. There may be some images without inscriptions that are older, but based on the style elements, Than Tun believes that none of them is older than the early 18th century and even suggests 1750 as the earliest possible date.

Although most statues are of late 18th and early 19th century, many other statues and images have been placed there on an ongoing basis by different donors throughout the cave's history up until the present time, from lay people to the ruling authorities. The collection as a whole forms an impressive display of Buddhist iconography and art from early Konbaung era to the modern period. No other place in Burma displays such a range of style, not only in the images, but also in the ornamental thrones and reredos which surround the images.

Within the cave, there are about seventy unique images of the Bhisakkaguru tradition dating to the late 18th century. They are unique in that the styling of hair, eyes, nose, ears, robe are different from most other images from Burma. The salient feature of this type of image is the holding of a seed in the upturned right palm. Than Tun reports that such images are found nowhere else in Burma, and based on Buddhist iconography, that these images are from the Mahayana tradition, and the conjecture is that the Pindaya cave at one time served the Mahayana Bhisakkaguru cult.

IMPRESSIONS OF CHIN STATE 🇲🇲

CHIN PEOPLE are Sino-Tibetan ethnolinguistic group native to Chin State of Myanmar. The Chin are one of the founding groups (Chin, Kachin, Shan and Bamar) of the Union of Burma. The Chin speak a variety of related languages, share elements of cultures and traditions.

The term 'Chin' initially as used by the Burmese in Myanmar referred to all the hill tribes in the western frontier of Myanmar. However, in India the same hill tribes are divided into two groups i.e. Kuki-Chin and Naga. The Kukis generally lives south of Nagas and the two group meets in Manipur, India. Now, the term 'Chin' people refer only to the majority Kuki-Chin speaking communities of Myanmar.

The Chin people are believed to have come to Burma via the Chindwin Valley in the late ninth or tenth century A.D. They moved westward, and are thought to have settled in the present Chin State around 1300-1400. The Chin practice oral traditions and and do not have written historical records.

AWEI PILA 🌴 BAREFOOT LUXURY IN PARADISE 🦈 MERGUI ARCHIPEL 🇲🇲

Off the southern coast of Myanmar lies the Mergui Archipelago, a collection of Eight hundred islands boasting untouched coral reefs and beaches that were long inaccessible to tourists. Currently, there remain only a few islands open to the public in this area, and the Awei Pila Resort is one of them.
The resort is nestled within virgin forest on Pila Island, which is located 80 kilometers from the shoreline of Kawthaung and is only accessible via private boat. Guests can enjoy stunning views of the Andaman Sea from the island's northernmost beach and enjoy a collection of chic, tented villa accommodations. The resort's “24 EcoChic” Villas are similar to yurts – a type of circular tent – that combine tranquil tones and inviting furnishings to instill a sense of calm. They are offering luxurious amenities with a focus on sustainability and comfort, air-conditioned, and there is an enclosed, outdoor bathroom where guests can shower beneath the stars. There are also private terraces, manicured gardens, and incredible views of the Mergui forest or the Andaman Sea that lies beyond.
Discover the majesty of the Mergui and the destination where you disconnect to reconnect. Go on a guided trekking expedition, partake in cooking classes or explore the vast sea with kayaking and scuba diving. Guests can also visit the nearby Fisherman’s bay to sample a taste of the local seafaring culture as well as enjoy unique water sports experiences. Get PADI certified and explore the waters with our team from the Awei Pila Dive Center.
