Pindaya Cave
The most famous attraction for travellers to Pindaya is the Pindaya Cave. In fact, this Shan State township takes its name from a legend about the cave, a giant spider, seven celestial princesses and a heroic prince.
The cave is a sacred pilgrimage site for devout Buddhists, but few foreign tourists have ventured here. It is worth seeking out. There are three caves on the limestone ridge above the town; the southernmost one is open to visitors. Inside, you will find over 8,000 images of the Buddha, most of them gold-covered, some dating to the late 18th century and some from recent years. The images have been donated by wealthy merchants and laypeople alike.

The oldest Buddha images are believed to have been installed by a cult of Mahayana Buddhists (most people in Myanmar practice Theravada Buddhism), and you can recognize these by the seed, or medicine pot, that the Buddha cups close to his chest in his right hand, or by the jewels on his robes and in his ears.

The cave extends 490 feet into the hillside. You will see a sign marking the terminus. Some people believe that it is the beginning of a tunnel that leads all the way to the caves at Bagan, another holy place.

Phowin Taung

It is situated in the Monywa region 40 km away from the bank of Chindwin river. Buddha images can be seen in the rock of sand stones (16th Century). Also Can be seen wall paintings and the JATAKAS (previous life of Buddha). Some people said that Phowin Taung looks like a boat turned bottom up. When it is looked at from a different side, it appears to be an image of Reclining Buddha.
The journey to Phowin Taung takes the traveler across the Chindwin River and through arid landscape, remote villages, a petrified forest and a copper mine. The cave itself is a series of openings running along a mountainside. Inside, paths lead to meditation spaces and different sized caves where Buddha images are carved in relief from the sandstone hillside.

The World's Largest Book

Kuthodaw pagoda is situated on 62nd street, between 10th and 11th street. The fifth Buddha Synod was held by King Mindon in Mandalay and he planned to keep record of Tripitaka on the 729 marble stone slabs of 5 feet high and 3.5 feet wide, in 1859. It took six months to finish the inscription with the supervision of 2400 monks. Each marble slab is housed by a temple and in the center of the pagoda compound is the “Maha Lawka Mara Zein stupa” which is the exact copy of the Shwesigon Pagoda of Pagan. If one person read the Tripitaka eight hours per day, it will take one year and three months to finish. That is why Kuthodaw Pagoda is known as “The World Largest Book”.

Tapestry
Throughout Myanmar, Mandalay, Shwegyido Quarter is the best place for embroidery and appliqué work. They still carry on their work as they used to do during the time of Myanmar Kings. Materials used in embroidery and appliqué workers include, golden silvery thread, sequins (plastic metal) Velvet, Satin, colored cloth, paper produced in Shan States and glue from sticky rice.
In making an embroidery cloth or a tapestry, the cloth has to stretch on a wooden frame, about one feet high above the ground and embroider on it later.
If you have traveled quite a bit you would have seen many workshops making tapestry. It is nice to wander around the shop and look around.

It is time to explore Myanmar Traditional Festival of Waso !

Waso is the fourth Myanmar month falling in June & July. It is part summer and part monsoon. The full-moon day of Waso is significant as the day the embryo-Buddha was conceived, the day He preached the first sermon of Dhamma Cakka, the day He performed the miracles.
The Waso festival is annually held on the full moon of Waso throughout Myanmar. The festival commemorates the time when the Buddha gave his first sermon, to five monks. Pilgrims throughout the country gather wild flowers to offer at pagodas, and offer new robes to monks. The day also marks the beginning of the Buddhist Lent of three months when members of the Sangha go into the rains retreat. The Buddhist Lent period is from the full moon of Waso until the full moon of Thadingyut (October ) .
There is a practice of young men and women going on outings of gathering flowers to be offered at Buddha images during the festival.A significant practice of Waso is the offering of monk’s robes to members of the Sangha for use during the Lent and so these robes are called Waso robes. Likewise there are also big candles called Waso candles offered at this time of the year.

Monsoon , the right season to visit Bagan

If you hate travelling under the scorching sun, I would to recommended you to visit Bagan in this time of the year. It will be less dusty than other seasons and also you will have peace exploring the historical sites. You will be pleased with Bagan , I'm sure.
First , as it is located in upper dry zone, Bagan shares Mandalay’s monsoon season renaissance from dry to fly. So, Bagan does not suffer from heavy rain like the Delta region such as Yangon. It makes Bagan a better choice to visit in rainy season.
Second, Bagan being one of Myanmar’s main tourist destination, has one obvious frustrating aspect for every traveler that is being crowded in nearly all attractions. Well, you don’t have to worry about that problem in rainy season. The crowds generally clear out and you won’t have to share the wondrous spiritual sites with other travelers.
In addition , it is the best season to save the budget on your trip and the very relevant reason why you should travel to Bagan in rainy season. Everything is available at cheaper prices than open seasons from hotels to car rentals .
Not to mention you will find a different scenery from other seasons when you visit Bagan during this time of the year. The rain that falls down will make the temples look at their best as the surrounding plains will be at their greenest, and also the Irrawaddy River that will be full of water.
